That's normal...Since Patreon start charging on the first of the month.
Otherwise people can subscribe for a pledge, get the reward, and leave before they actually gave any money.

Sorry, was remembering a buggy visual novel at the time and having events from a route you didn't choose happen anyway put the fear in me, considering the dog. Even if you choose not to, it can bug out and pop up anyway.

Because usually Patreon takes your money at the end of the month.

In theory you can be a patreon the 7th, take the game the 13th, delete your support the 14th without pay anything. It's an old problem with Patreon.

Apparently its optional (though permanent once you choose it). That's my mistake. I recall it being fairly big news when it was announced and guess I assumed it was happening across the board.

What you are talking about is the "charge upfront" option, Untill the past month, it was enabled only to a very little % of patreon creators, but as of november, almost Everyone can enable it, But is still optional, a creator can decide if turn it on, or leave it off; the only thing is that when you turn it on, it's permanent...

In other words a pure cash grab choice and in that case it proberly would be better to pick a furry theme considering those folks seem to have tons of money to throw away (see cloud meadow/breeding season dumpsterfire), since I really doubt that the beastiality crowd compare to the furries in regards to pure numbers.
