Has nothing to do with steam. There are already incest games on there and they don't even need a patch. Steam allows all games but for a select few that have loli/shota stuff in them and even then if it's added by a third party (mod) they sill will not stop it. Secondly, this overreach of Patreon has been going on for over a year and a half now but when your company is run by a very far left-wing nut job this is what happens.
Again I will say, it is not politics (at least American), it is money. Patreon's business model is unsustainable and the CEO has said that repeatedly. They can't survive giving creators 90% (5% to Patreon = 5% fees.) They are trying to expand outside of the US. Outside of the US, however, there has been a massive push to criminalize everything from 2d drawings to legally produced porn that looked "too young" to governmental authorities. In order to better expand the business, they need to drop anything problematic. The other thing is that they are changing their model to help creators sell merchandise. They don't want to be dealing with having somebody put a 2d/3d image on a phone case that will cause some Qanon-heads to explode.
Another factor is that once the

was signed into law, what constitutes a safe harbor became muddy.
In other words, Section 230 has allowed the internet to thrive on user-generated content without holding platforms and ISPs responsible for whatever those users might create.
But FOSTA-SESTA creates an exception to Section 230 that means website publishers would be responsible if third parties are found to be posting ads for prostitution — including consensual sex work — on their platforms.
That hole is narrow, for now. However, if the anti-pedo right gets together with the anti-pedo left, suddenly the same sort of censorship will be happening in the US. If Patreon is hosting such content at the time, they are toast but if they remove the content, it bothers very little of the user base, has minimal impact on their income and keeps them safe from future problems.
I was unsure of posting this because it is way off topic for this thread, but it is not off topic for the site. Patreon is cleaning house before things could be a problem for them and if other webhosts and platforms do the same it could be problematic for many communities including this one.
