Sure, they can make decisions that will have repercussions for the main characters, in this case Daniel and Lana, but they are still secondary. Regardless of their existence, the story follows a concise course. Everyone has their own interpretation in this case, but as I see it, ID's story is the story of a mother who took the edge and now can't let go. In one interpretation, Daniel is like the forbidden fruit and, since Lana ate it, she can't stop eating it. Meanwhile, Daniel can be seen in a number of ways, both with his Oedipus complex as is evident, and with the psychology of the self, the id and the superego. Ah, Daniel, he can be seen as the it, since he operates under the pleasure principle and contains the instincts. But coming to the main point, the story of ID is the story of a mother and her son, nothing more.

In conclusion, it is riculo to want to change a story that is already established, as what, as well as to modify solid bases of this same one. Just to see more ''action''.
