Yeah it was a nice concept, shame that it was forgotten by the dev. Maybe someone else will try to remake it if it goes on abandoned
I call it a fork not a remake. If the creator does post an update I will probably fork in the content I generate as to not interrupt his own. I definitely respect all of the work gone into this game its one of my all time favorites! I really do hope he does post an update soon.

This seems quite disrespectful given the creator explicitly said they did not want you to do this.

normally I'd agree but the creator only came back to say he's still working on it and then nothing.
I don't think that entitles someone else to come along and start selling an "updated" version behind a patreon.

The creator made this game for free. It's pretty scummy to steal his work and start selling it when he has said he does not want this to happen.

And besides the ethics of it, I do not think I could be interested in the "creativity" of someone who needs to openly steal another person's work.
Yes this is how I feel too. The concept of this game is not unique - type "female protagonist" into the tags search and you will find hundreds similar. The reason I liked this game is the creator had a fun writing style, good taste in women for the images/gifs, and a strong sense of quality control. It plays much better than most HTML/twine games.

Meanwhile the person attempting this hostile takeover has no track record at creating games, and a shoddy AI generated profile picture that doesn't even spell their name right. This makes me think their quality control is not good. Hard to imagine they are skilled enough to recreate the original author's writing style and expand upon their content in interesting ways.

There is a right way to go about something like this.
The example is Female Agent and Blue Swallow.
Female Agent had an interesting concept. Even some good writing. But it was going nowhere (and finally got marked as abandoned here on F95). Blue Swallow took the concept and has its own unique high quality content, and is a completely separate game that wouldn't have been created if the dev hadn't loved the potential Female Agent had.

The thing is: even if you continue someone else's game, you have to be able to create your own quality content for it. If you can do that, you can create your own quality content in your own game. No need to turn part of the community against you.

Same for me and it has sections in it that has a adventure game feeling to it as well.

I do not get it how people think that someone radomly saying "i revive it" would be able to match what Ulysses did so far.
Even more so when they say in the same sentence that they revive multiple "dead" games at the same time.

My only real problem was the paywall. If you want to take someone else's game and build on it I think that's OK. Especially if the dev had made it clear they aren't releasing more updates. Regardless of the fact they said they're working on it. This happened with imperium too and it just killed both versions instantly. The original dev had no intentions to continue they just made enough to get the other person to stop working on it.

Nothing about this situation really seems good. And if you're going to make your own game go make a new thread.

I did a poll and it seems like the backers so far want the recent update to be public so after I've cleaned it up a bit, rewrote some lines, make sure the quality is good enough I'll post the link on my page. It's easy to blow a candle out (see my icon for the candle), harder to put a fire out.

I still don't understand whether the game will be continued by the author.
If so, when should I expect updates ?
It's not, but someone else was trying to take it over. Or make their own with this as a base. It's unclear if it's going to be available here or not but the creator didn't want them taking it over, but also didn't seem to want to continue it themselves. It's a mess. Shame, because it was a good game.

Which the creator did not actually express in any way. They said they do not consider the game abandoned.
It is simply that we haven't heard of them since then - three months ago - or seen any sign of life.
And even then it had been a long time since the last update.

So we are now coming up to a year since the last update. So it definitely feels abandoned.

Feeling abandoned doesn't give someone else a right to swoop in, grab what's here, and make money off of it. The game is the dev's intellectual property and they still get to decide what to do with it, even if that means they bury it and walk away. if ReviveMyDeadGame wants to make a game, let them make their own game rather than predating on one where the dev has told them they don't want that to happen.

That was why, when ReviveMyDeadGame first cropped up looking for a game to continue, I suggested Body Exchange, a terrific little game that is well and truly abandoned. The dev was a young Russian guy who disappeared when Putin decided that he didn't want there to be any more young Russian guys; as sad as it makes me, that dev is probably not coming back. Nobody could be offended if that game were revised. As it is, ReviveMyDeadGame is a leech sucking the blood of a still-living and very unwilling developer.

The complete lack of shame to ignore the original creator saying no, it blows my mind. They act like this is a public service, but the $100/month tier on their patreon makes their real motivation clear.

I agree that the OG Dev should be able to refuse anyone from taking over, but claiming 'intellectual property' when the game uses stolen pictures (I could be wrong, but I doubt the OG Dev has permission to use all these pics) is a bit rich.
