I really like this creators games but I am afraid he is going to run into the same problems as he did with "Shadows over Manston".

There may be spoilers here so if you have not played "Shadows over Manston" yet, you may want to avoid this post. White Phantom writes really well and there is a whole lot going on in Shadows and that was where the game started to fall apart. Too many things happening and too many characters to keep things going in a game format, especially a format where porn is involved. Shadows could have been broken down into at least four games and all of them would have been good. (My favourite would have been a story about a guy who is injured at work and has a wife who is a little distant, a step daughter who is in love/lust with him and a sister-in-law who he has knocked-up....instead that was all buried in Shadows with a whole lot of other stories going on as well).

I am hoping the same thing (too much complexity) doesn't happen with "Defending Lydia Collier". It is only the opening strokes and we already have the following potential romantic interests: Secretary; Police officer 1; Police Officer 2; Former Girlfriend; Accused Murderer; Accused Murderer's Sister (OK maybe not but I don't see how she won't be involved); Accused murderers girlfriend; Secretary's Girlfriend. There is a potential murder, a kinky sex story and a potential government conspiracy all interconnected.............and we are only at the second day. My 2 cents worth is that White Phantom would be better off going things down a little and have just a few girls available to the MC within the context of the story. Then concentrate on getting a game finished and put to bed.

I love White Phantom's writing and kinkiness and want to see him have great success.
A few people have said this to me, all I'd say is Shadows had 0 planning, pretty much everything I did was on the fly, that's why nearly every update needed a restart because I went back to Day 2 to change it to fit my new idea for Day 3 and then did the same to Day 3 for Day 4 etc

Defending Lydia Collier I have the story sorted so far for the next 15 updates, I know exactly what is going to happen with those characters, I know exactly who is going to be romanceable and who isn't, I know when you'll meet them and why. You've already made the choices that map out pretty much exactly what you'll be doing on Day 3 even if you didn't realise it, and there's nobody else really to introduce. If you're worried about the girls, I introduced them all early, but

Great, I loved Shadows and I really want you to succeed and keep producing. Thank you for not taking the criticism personally as it really was meant with the best of intentions.

Oh man, i loved the woman at OP.. I guess, she is called "Lydia Collier"? I hope she is the main female character of this game. That would be lovely.. at least for me.
There is so much details on her skin and i loved her brows that makes her look innocent and sweet at the same time. Hairstyle looks a bit classic but it suits her. What a lovely lady.

Anyway after praising so much , let's dl and try story.

Note: the girl with heavy make up looks like mother of the other girl. You might want to change her make up. But i didn't play it yet so there might be a reason behind it. Anyway, let's try. Looks promising.

Oh cool. Sounds like a unique story for a change. No time to play now, but certainly will in the near future.

Can confirm the Dev is a Fake Brit, that Tea has far too much milk in it, On a real note though it looks OK if not a little small at 72 Meg however im sure the game will be abandoned after 1 update as he did with "Shadows Over Manston" This is a wait and see from me, which is a shame as White Phantom has some real talent.

Nice.. like it so far... as some have said that tea is a bit milky though, i like mine so strong i can stand my spoon upright in it.. as my old Gran used to say "want a nice slice of tea and a cuppa cake?"... all jests aside though.. good start. Hope to see more in near future.

Manston had alot more than 1 update..the dev realized it had gotten out of control with way too many side routes making it a confusing mess..he took stock of himself..realized all he did right and all he did wrong and rebooted himself with a clear vision set forth with the plan far ahead and ready...i have all the faith this will be a great game..his talent is undeniable...and i firmly believe it will see a proper conclusion far off in the future...i'm sticking by him.

You know what? IMO, WhitePhantom can tell the naysayers to sit on a sharp stick. I think this one with the setting, story and planning, has the potential to be shoulder to shoulder with many of the top games here. You can do it! Here's something to chew on- of WhitePhantom sticks to his guns and polishes them to put out the best game he can, he'll have a cult ready for the next game that'll do nothing but grow.

Another point to consider. As much as I liked Shadows, he stuck with it for longer than he should have. IMO, he should "respin" Shadows into a comic series. Just a thought.

I enjoyed Shadows Over Marston/The Maifest quite a lot but I can understand why the game has been 'put on hold'. Like the dev said, there was simply way too many paths and it must have been getting out of control. Maybe after a bit of time, and experience, it's something that can be revisited.

That said, this was a pretty good intro for a new game. I don't really know who the main girl's going to be (though you'd imagine it's Ellie) but the extended cast is good. The plot's got that little bit of intrigue to hook you in and not enough games are set in the UK so that's an added bonus. A quality update or two down the road and this could well be worth adding to the Patreon list.

just for future reference in Britain they are called solicitors lawyer is american
Solicitors work in Offices and do not enter Courtrooms. They take a two year course and need special access to work in an actual courtroom, and will not be working in the higher courts.

Barristers on the other hand work in Courtrooms representing clients and take a two year bar exam, they typically do not do office work, police interviews or meet the general public, they may not have even taken the necessary training to be a solicitor.

Somebody who is qualified as both often will advertise themselves as "lawyers" rather than one or the other so they can do both types of work, for example if you called yourself a "Solicitor" you wouldn't have people seeking legal representation in court coming to you for work and vice-versa. By calling yourself a "lawyer" you could advertise to both markets, or if you ran a "law firm" you'd probably have both solicitors and barristers working for you so that you could attract as many clients as possible.

Our MC is qualified in both ways, which is why he will go from beginning to end with the case, if he was just a solicitor he'd hand the court proceeding parts off to a barrister.

I'm doing a Law degree in the UK

Terrific start - I'm intrigued and looking forward to more (although if I'm perfectly honest, at the end of v0.01 I am more interested in the story and unveiling the crime than I am in any of the women. I was interested in the cop... until the interrogation.)

I have a couple of minor issues:
1) How are the odds 2/1 [£2 wins £1] for England as the favorite and 19/1 [£19 wins £1] for Australia?
2) Why the hell is the lawyer letting the client directly respond to the police during interrogation? Shouldn't the lawyer be the one answering the police questions, and directing their client to say as little as possible?

I'm an American, so maybe the above makes sense to Brits.

For my 1st question, it doesn't affect the story/plot/etc (i hope), but it is just so bizarre.

For my 2nd question, I can stretch "suspension of disbelief" to account for the writer needing the audience to see the client's emotional responses. I just can't help wondering if that's another way the UK legal system is different from the US legal system, or if it is supposed to indicate something (like the lawyer isn't very good at his job, or changes in the in-game legal process due to TITAN initiative, etc.)

In Canada many law-firms have name, name&name with Barristers and Soliciters..right underneath and we have lawyers...pretty much follows the British way..even people in our higher courts wear the white wigs

That's not the way fractional odds work as used in Britain. In the British system 2/1 means you win £2 from your £1 stake and 19/1 means you would win £19 from your £1 stake.
Thanks!
Looking at that this morning it makes perfect sense (the same as 2-1 and 19-1 in the USA)
I don't know why I was thinking 1/1 was the reverse of 1-1 last night.
