Honestly, I do not know where are you from, but I really doubt modern England is similar society.... That being said all the characters from DLC, judging by the story, were born as part of same socio-economic strata, lower-middle and middle classes. Some prospered to upper-middle class (MC) or even to higher (Lydia through marriage), but they are still from more or less same background.

I don't think Ellie shows any sign of being out of signal with MC. Even from starting of their relationship from their office it was pretty clear that MC is incharge and she listen's to him. so don't know what the problem is. She will move with MC not MC with her Family also she is looking for longterm stability that's why she convinces MC to come and meet her family, lost her virginity. She is possessive of MC from her sister's (smantha especially). MC can make her behave nice to Smantha in slutty path too. So I don't seriously see any issues here. On top of that he's lawyer, no one is going to put him in dirt in term's of wealth, he can sign prenup.
