Noob question: if I want to play the new version and bring along my save and settings, how better to proceed? Save locally from the old version, then load the new one and that's all? Or do I have to bring the settings too?

Your saves are stored in browser, so you can just open the new version in the same browser and you can continue without any issues.
Your browser saves will disappear if you clear history/cookies,so its best to make local saves regularly.

Also,don't try to run modded version's saves into default version of the game.

I would advise AGAINST updating the game without making a backup save. I use firefox and with the privacy settings i use in the browser the game DOES NOT automatically port saves over to a new version and somehow deletes the saves from a previous version.

Always back up your saves.

Always pick male character in every game,NPCs are set to female/futa and beasts are set to 'monster ppl'.

I always play a crossdressing male, despite being a girl myself. Mostly because this is the only game I know of with in-depth crossdresser mechanics. That, and I won't deny having a femboy kink.

Rape fetish, with the MC being the victim of it, is meant to be a deliberate main feature of the game. So that's unlikely since it would go against the creative vision for the game.

No to mention the entire system of the game would have to be reworked and at this point of development that's extremely hard (the html file contains more than 700,000 lines, go figure)

I wouldn't do that if I was you. Most mods only apply to their corresponding versions. Using mismatched mods could corrupt your save games or outright refuse to work.

I'm also waiting for DOL+ to be updated. Just need some more patience.

Tip for playing on mobile with mods: Download the mods from DOLMods, add dot in front of folder name to remove the folder from indexing (Gallery, send context menus), and use HTTP Server app. For ease, rename the game HTML to "index.html".
Run the server on 127.0.0.1 IP address and only allow traffic from this subnet (It will not be accessible from outside your device). In browser, go to 127.0.0.1 and there you'll have it.

Previous versions' saves are preserved provided the old game html file remains in the same file path, unless you clear cache or something, but it's always wise to export saves regularly.

I feel like I'm the only person that ever runs a crossdressing woman (woman in men's clothing) for assault avoidance given crossdressing seems to always assume a man in woman's clothing. Seems odd given how common the "girl attends boys-only school" trope was, but "otome" and "porn game" seem to chase different demographics/vibes.

I usually run female protagonists since I find it easier to get into the game that way and it lets me avoid a lot of the fetishes targeting male protagonists which frequently aren't my thing. Though I tend to view every M2F/TSF game as a missed opportunity for a story about a tomboy protagonist exploring her femininity or sexuality (without the end goal always being total slut, but that also leads to my gripes that games almost always assume kinkiness and promiscuity are the same).
