No, they're not useless. They're essentially useful especially for defiant PCs with low sadomasochism stats. They were even more useful on earlier versions before those were added and before biting NPCs that covers your mouth from screaming was added, like against Whitney. I try to collect them all whenever I can on all of my saves. I use them for that box in the forest, and I've used them to protect my oral virginity from lurkers and insects.
These (squid, dolphins, dog reward and cat licking) are quite random events. The surefire way is milking cattle at Alex' farm and progressing from there. This also increases Tending skills, cow respect and farm yield.
I managed to get it removed by heading out to the lake before the blood moon started. Swam out, used the practice swimming to start the night and then was able to swim down to the plinth room before the wraith started hunting.
If you prefer a traumatic experience over Alex love affair with a lot more to do (including 'consensual' sex with dogs, pigs, cows and horses) at their farm then why not.
You can also hitchhike or walk along the road. It's riskier, of course, but swimming in the ocean also is.
Not sure, but you can get molested by fish shoals and lecherous divers, if I remember correctly, which can be annoying for those players looking to build a debauched PC who is not a victim, but a willing participant. So far, Alex farm offers the safest path to Deviancy, with a lot of extra skill improvements (hand and tending when milking cows, mouth when sucking their teats or cocks, ect).

The action in the Temple is Pray/Watch and it increases Awareness, while Pray/Pray for Salvation decreases it. Combined with pendants 'praying' and 'meditation' will raise awareness quicker than sex acts alone.

Leighton kinda sorta is that person, but their story needs further development, with at least two ways of doing porn stuff with them: either by being blackmailed or through becoming their willing sex star. You can currently outsmart Leighton and strike a no more detention deal, as well as thwart their blackmail and still visit them regularly to receive your punishments and do photoshoots, but it doesn't increase Leighton's 'love' or 'lust' or build any relationship with them. Why not add him as 'love interest' and with enough mutually satisfying detentions, photoshoots and brothel sessions they could become softer and confess that the MC is the perfect student they've been looking for and propose to manage your porn career, with variety of scenarios available, depending on the MCs inclinations and experience. I see that two or three variations of detention spankings have been added recently, so it's less repetitive than it was before.
