I'm just scared about Patreons because of the massive amount of abuse I've seen, so I wait, when I think it's the right time.

As you can read on the Patreon page, yes it is.
You have to link you Discord with Patreon for it to work.
Once you are a member you will be able to gain access to the discord server using the membership tab on the Patreon page.
