How does someone get burnt out when she only puts out maybe 1 animation a year?

She could've avoided this whole situation if she stuck to short NSFW loops like she did in the Tumblr days, rather than insisting on doing these huge multi-minute projects where the final product ends up being 80% SFW anyway.

She could've kept a steady stream of income of several tens of thousands of dollars a month if she'd just paced herself, instead she has delusions of grandeur of being some big hotshot animator, when in reality her talent lies in doing smut loops. She talks about "losing the motivation to do NSFW" and that's exactly that: hubris. These projects keep getting more and more involved and it's never enough for her.

Let this be a lesson, kids. No matter how talented you are, don't let it get to your head.

Jokes aside, its actually very easy to be burnt out over anything let alone nsfw. For example, eat only cereal for your meals, everyday, for a year, see how quickly you'll want to eat something else. Its an oversimplification of the problem but i'm sure you can understand. And then throw in whatever IRL obligations they have and it gets even easier to not want to create. Of course every individual is different. I'm sure theres some who would be happy to do it

I think its rather admirable that she decided to call it quits rather than have people keep throwing money at her when she just doesn't have the will to create anymore. God knows theres so many content creators in this space who are more than happy to do that and collect their cheque every month

The past few years have been challenging for me for several reasons. The gist of it is a mix of burnout, health, lack of motivation and other priorities.

that I've been making an effort to get the motivation back for the NSFW genre but unfortunately it's not working too well. I know you guys are very patient but it's not a great feeling for me having nothing to show for months at this point.

I won't be able to consistently work on NSFW content for a very long time, so instead of constantly pausing pledges and having no progress updates, I decided that this was the best course of action.

I've literally never seen anyone complain about her shorts back in the day. Even back then, she was one of the highest grossing artists on Patreon.

Can't say anything about "back in the day". I watched her stuff from Hentai Foundry, Picarto, and Comdotgame, the later of which has some of the only surviving evidence of discontent in the form of thumbs down. I can show the other comment I was referencing:

For anyone interested, I compressed her collection to AV1. Original size for the videos was 10GB. AV1 is around 1.5GB. So 15% the original size.

A few notes:

-Eri-Chan's workout is the original file. For some reason, the AV1 conversion saved no space, and resulted in a file the same size as the original.
-''The Classic' is also the original, as the AV1 file only saved a few MB's off a 25MB original.
-This isn't complete. It's a personal collection. It's mostly her voiced work from 2017 onwards. Loops are included if they're longer than 5 seconds.
-"Fate-Start Treatment - Miyamoto Musashi" is not included in her GDrive folder for 10$ tier subs. Neither is 'Sea King Judgement' iirc. So I had to download those off Newgrounds and work from that.

I convert stuff to AV1 since it usually leads to space savings anywhere from 50 to 90%. I always recommend keeping the originals if space doesn't matter to you. But I make these available for anyone that cares for this stuff.

This is a loser take, and no amount of "logic" is going to make it less of a loser take. You're crashing out over a porn artist that is most likely a millionaire or close to one who after a decade of drawing smut decided to stop and had the care to actually delete their Patreon, so they don't milk gooners like yourself. Because doing that shit isn't productive and you'll lose your fanbase who'll move on to other artists doing more spectacular work? If she never did Fandeltales, Party Games, and others she never would've grown to her level; and if she made shorter, less interesting art then her fanbase would notice and pressure her to go back to long-form or leave her.

Plus, external pressures exist; it's not like you can live in a bubble the rest of your life. Someone comes up at you asking what your job is, you can't just say, "I draw porn". You look at yourself and see just that. It's that some people actually have lives outside of their computers.

To me, it just seemed like the reason she stopped is because she kept making long animations and that that was too much pressure and her, and maybe it would've been less pressure if she had just stuck to short loops. Maybe that's just my bias since I loved her earlier short loops and didn't like any of her longer animations. Again, that was just my preference. Maybe what made her stop was some other personal life event.

It's rather unfortunate, this was one of the last great 2D animators I was aware of. That being said though, I also didn't like any of the later stuff nearly as much as Party Games.

It's a valid point

But...

Put it this way: I dont have a resume. I don't care about my 'portfolio'. Because I'm the one doing the hiring. No one can pay me what I already make. I think at 20k+ a month, Derp isn't focused on where she can work. She's focused on who can work for her.

Not saying she shouldnt quit or w.e. Just a thought. Generally you dont worry about who can hire you if no one is capable of paying you what you yourself can make.
