Honestly? As long as the developer continues to give the player complete control, what does it matter how many divergent story arcs they sew into the game? The MC can have an arc where they "dragon ball" (my daughters are on a dragon ball binge at the moment) every fight and it wouldn't matter as long as there was control to choose otherwise. Control is king in any game genre.

Which is why I hate kinetic novels. Being able to make choices to change how characters interact, how the story unfolds, etc... this is the way.
