I would add that a VN is an excellent fit for taboo fetishes because the story takes such a central role.
An "incest" porn video, is about two people pretending to be family even though they are clearly not (even interracial incest porn seems to exist...) and they spend about 5 minutes to try and sell you the taboo, and finally the rest of the video is vanilla sex.
NTR video's, I'm not sure if that exists, but cuckold porn is generally about a guy crying in the corner with his clothes on while the woman and the black are fucking.
Both examples come down to bad acting, bad casting and a complete lack of story. All of that is easily solved in a VN.

You nailed it, I have tried explaining the same thing to anti-NTR crowd. Why do we like NTR? First, I do not self-insert. Second, it is far better alternative to the fake taboo porn, because in a game it is believable. So if I have mood for vanilla, I just watch porn with real actors, while the games/comics exist as a medium for more taboo or extreme fetishes.

You're probably right, but that wasn't my point.
I see alpha-beta as descriptions of the characters in an NTR game. I see sadists and masochists as some of the subsets of the players. A masochist could easily identify with the cucked MC, and give the MC his own name. A sadist would NEVER give the cucked MC his own name, and probably use the default if possible. I wonder what that makes of a player who names the cucked MC after someone he dislikes?
I realize that this is too broad of a generalization and that many players who like NTR are neither masochists nor sadists. Each has his own reason for liking that genre.

You shouldn't have to because Ren'Py also saves elsewhere. For example, on PC, it saves to this directory for each Ren'Py game: %APPDATA%/Renpy
