I discovered this game just recently. I am blown away from the use of VaM, I prefer these graphics to Daz3D, particularly because of the animations. Can anyone recommend some titles similar to this?

Having a blast with this game. The pacing is generally great, maybe a tiny bit rushed here and there. And I like how the narrative focuses more on intimate moments (Jacuzzi scratches, Emma's massage) instead of gratuitous scenes.

Likes:
  • The attention to detail in environments and character design.
  • The prologue's animation at the airport. Simple but effective.
  • Some renders made me question which engine was being used. It's VAM with, I think, some heavy post-processing.
  • Ashley's fading dyed hair. Lovely!
  • The choice-based pathing is basic, but the choices feel important and actually change how (and with whom) the MC spends his time.
  • I like that Kayla is traumatized by the "prank" Rob and Billy played. She has every reason to be angry and feel unsafe. The writing also highlights that the MC reacts differently to it, which also makes sense. Men and women (generalizing) have different coping mechanisms and reactions to stress. Kayle feels like a powerless victim; Billy taught her that if a man wanted to hurt her, she'd have no way of stopping it.
  • The MC never seemed like someone who thought things through, but after waking up, this seems to be dialed to 11. He feels great, almost euphoric, judging by his behavior. Though this could also be explained by an elevated testosterone level. If that's the case, we should also see more status-seeking behavior and higher risk-taking from him.

Some nitpicks:
  • The MC is supposed to be a French guy, but he has mastered English to such a level that he sounds like a New York rapper. This regularly takes me out of my immersion, mostly when I'm reminded he's actually from France and not some place in the US. He's using the vernacular of someone who grew up in a certain culture while using English, not a French dude who's translating his thoughts into English.
  • The teacher's proposal for learning French felt off to me. Their dialogue felt very self-aware that it was taking place in an AVN and didn't convince me that the teacher was actually interested in learning. This is mostly a dialogue issue.
  • I would've loved to get the choice to punch Rob and live with the consequences, certainly if Kayla was involved. The MC might laugh about it later, but Kayla seemed traumatized. I'm also surprised the MC didn't immediately try to find Kayla to make sure she's OK. He didn't go inside, see Riley, and immediately ask her if she's seen Kayla. Instead, he chatted a bit with her and only thought about Kayla after Riley asked about her. This unintentionally makes it seem as if the MC is very egocentric and not good at sympathizing with others.
  • Too many... ellipses... in dialogue...
    "*Stammering* B-But why would you... um... stay hidden..." => "B-but why would you, um, stay hidden?"
    We don't need to be told she's stammering; that's what "B-but" already conveys. I love that the "um" is used to create a filled pause, but it doesn't need ellipsis because the pause is already filled. Other writers decorate action tags (*smirks*), vocalizations (*um*) and onomatopoeia (*hiss*) or use waits, but that's entirely personal preference: "B-but why would you{w} *um*{w} stay hidden?" or even "B-but why would you...{w} why would you{w=0.5} *um*{w=0.5} stay hidden?"
  • Whatever the MC saw in Kayla's room, discussing it after she thought she was being kidnapped and murdered doesn't seem like the right time. He's prioritizing his own conscience over her comfort. She said not a minute ago that she isn't OK yet, that she feels shattered. Why is now a good time to remind her that the guy sitting next to her invaded her privacy? I don't mind this as a story beat, except that it works. Despite being an emotional mess, Kayla can put it in perspective and doesn't care about it anymore. I think it would be better if Kayla confronted him. She could say she feels unsafe and demand the MC explain himself. She'd need that reassurance because she wants to feel safe with him again.
  • Both Ashley and Riley are toying with the MC, enjoying getting him flustered or confused. This paints them as sexually forward and more as side chicks than relationship material.
  • Riley and Ashley are portrayed fairly negatively. Their teasing crosses the line a few times, and I can't help but feel sympathetic with Anna. I wonder if it's the writer's intent for me to dislike Riley.
  • Kayla's breasts seem to change in volume a lot, depending on what she's wearing.
  • I don't understand why the MC is humoring Riley after the party instead of going home with the sisters. Earlier, we could refuse Kayla with the reasoning that she seemed drunk, but Riley, who is actually drunk, gets a free pass. The MC also doesn't tell her that she shouldn't call his sister in the state she's in. While the dialogue indicates that the MC is already agreeing to it, we do get a choice, which I appreciate.
    I decide to go home. At this point, I don't trust Riley. She's acting too unhinged.
    It's interesting that we don't get this choice if Kayla isn't at the party. This means that, whatever happened to the MC after waking up, it required him to have a woman next to him.
  • I'm not a fan of reading other characters's thoughts in a non-kinetic novel. It softens the divide between the MC's limited knowledge and the player's omniscient view, which can bias choice-making where decisions should stem from what the MC realistically perceives. I would prefer that these thoughts be conveyed through dialogue, actions, and/or body language instead.
  • If you don't go upstairs to check on Emma, he'll still know she's been drying stuff.

thats just the way this game rolls.
to make it better, the same happens to the dev, thats way the development is sloooow.

Hello everybody!

Here are the new numbers for this update: 1875 renders, 64 animations and ~41,000 words.

Once I'm fully done with Riley's lewd scene, there should be 1900+ renders, and I might still add a few more animations. That scene ended up being bigger than expected (as always lol). Right now it alone sits at 32 animations and 236 renders. These are easily some of the most complex animations I have ever made in terms of subtle movements and details, and I'm very proud of the result. I cannot wait for you all to finally see them!

As most of you already know, Kayla's lewd scene is even longer on paper. That means it'll be HUGE compared to the previous ones, but it's very much intentional this time. It's one of the final moments of the update and the payoff for all the buildup with Kayla, after all. And just to be clear, this is only the beginning between her and the MC. There's still plenty of room for much, much more later on...

The "~90% complete" estimate I gave on the discord is still accurate, because the remaining 10% is 2 large scenes with Kayla (build up, then payoff), and other smaller ones. More precisely, 1 at school, 2 at home (possibly 3, with Chloe), and the ending. There's also the testing phase and the sound design remaining before the full release. I have no idea how long will it take to have sound in every animation, since I've never hired a voice actress before, but I'm confident this investment will be worth it. The polishing phase shouldn't take long, because I try to polish everything as I go. I'm not doing 3 to 15+ iterations per animation for nothing!

I'm fully aware that 0.12 came out almost 11 months ago now, and that is the one thing I can't say I am proud of. But as I've explained, I simply cannot go faster. Life, and especially college, are still in the way. Life will always be there, of course. Unlike what some people seem to believe, I'm not an emotionless robot working on the game 24/7. Shocking, I know.

Every bit of support matters more than you probably think, and I am genuinely grateful for all of you. I try to read everything, and seeing people who appreciate the game really makes my day :)

One last thing, I wanted to show you one of the prototypes for Riley and Anna's mom, Ms. Lydia Perkins, who I plan to introduce in the remake: 1000323401.png
Emma is there for reference. I already have some ideas for a completely new scene in the Prologue where they would look almost exactly like this, come back from a night out, and take care of the MC who's not feeling very well…

There's also a completely different version of Lydia without tattoos or goth style, but this one is currently my favourite. That said, I still don't get what my problem is with the designs. She looks a bit too similar to Emma, and possibly to other characters as well, that I didn't compare to yet. Their styles are the polar opposite, but their facial structures are close enough that, side by side, they almost look like sisters.

I didn't use any reference when creating her. I tried to make her look as good as possible (to my taste), and only saw the resemblance once I placed her next to Emma. Not sure how big of a problem that really is, but I hope the differences in style, personality, and body shape helps set them apart. This probably won't be the final version of her, as I will make a poll later for the different appearances she has.

Maybe you're right, wah wah whatever, wah wah what's not normal is that it takes more than a year to release an update with fewer than 2000 renders. :HideThePain:
