1) Yes I can get it, but maybe a quick win solution can be to put a watermark like "work in progress" directy on the images of the unused locations so that you don't need to rework anything a part the images.
2) "It's easy to track completion with games where progression is linear and you get a scene after scene, here you can get not just new events with each progression in relationship but also continuation of already existed interactions, hard to track all that. But I'll think of something."
I agree this is why I was thinking about some sort of % I don't know how unity works, I have to admit it, but in html or similar each progres in the story usually come with a flag variable that is like 0 didn't happen yet 1 it happened so if for each character in the profile is it possible to put sometihing like sum(flag)/tot(flag) related to the events for that character you could provide some general feedback to the player on the fact that they have done everything or not, maybe it's not feasible or it's an oversimplification but I think it could really help.
