Ren'Py Dissonance [v0.13] [L_Elyot]

Aight just went through the whole thing in the last month (admittedly since LiL was on break), I gotta say, really good, especially the newer content. Can feel Elyot getting better at writing (or maybe just taking their time?), and the worldbuilding for the .13 is super interesting; not often I'm as engaged with a 'creation myth' as this, and I wanna see more. The comparisons to LiL are warrented, but the game itself gives credit in the about page (unlike some other games that take far more from LiL) and, past the premise, I think it does plently to differentiate itself.

Its a bit of a shame updates aren't too frequent, but I get that this isnt the authors whole life; take your time, if a three-month schedule works best, then so be it I say. Just hope Elyot tries not to be quite as optimistic with release dates as they seem to have been in the past, that can only dissapoint!

If I had to say anything, I'd say the earlier parts could use some touch-ups, mainly in word choice, cutting down repetition etc, as some people have pointed out before. Also, I'm sorry, but Elyot really needs to get a grammar checker working. Not 100% sure how it works in renpy, but there must be a tool to automatically integrate with a grammar checker. There are just too many mistakes, it distracts from what would otherwise be close to my favourite VN.

To Elyot; great stuff so far, and hope you find a good balance and schedule to keep this going, can't wait to read more!

great game, but is it possible to toggle between sandbox/linear or rather, switch back to sandbox, kinda want to take the game slowly at my own pace now that I am over the prologue and got to know the characters more. Scenes jumping from character X to Y to Z and then Z again, while skipping certain characters for few hours straight is causing dissonance in my brain...

Don't know if that would fix it, is the game set up so you can focus on who you want instead of only one person having a event at a time?

character events are completely random so far(?) and I don't think I was given a choice as to how it was set up. Perhaps the game is running through events in ascending order, so characters will lower affection get multiple events triggered over and over to play catch up

Loved this game.
Enjoyed from beginning to end (of current version).
It really deserves a lot more attention.

I'm sure that if people here had at the very least the capacity of a potato and the time to actually read and enjoy a story, this could get a lot more recognition.

I feel weird giving a lot of notes about a product that seems very far from finished, so just take it as overall unfiltered first impressions (and not actual advice).

Anyway, these are my overall thoughts on the game. I like Nadeko and Minami the most. And I think that a proper gallery with a preview image for the events that are h-scenes would be welcome (the linear thing is a godsend btw). For all that I've noted, please don't take it too seriously, it's more of a raw first impression take on things - which I think could be helpful as an unfiltered reaction to your work.

My pondered thoughts differ in the sense that I think it's a good game that could use a bit of polish, especially in the first arcs where everyone says "bingo" like it's the word of the day. But, even though a lot of the story did not go in the way I thought it would go/or think it ought to go, it's your story and it's a good one. Thanks again for making this and I'll be following the journey from now on.

I agree with the Music, it really is something else.
(I found myself unironically listening to the MP3 music files).

Regarding your comment about the possible tragedies coming in Chapter 2, I would like to also relate that to how Toru may have his personality changed, seeing that the end of chapter 1 is a decision between physically dying holding on OR mentally breaking down... that may change a lot the relationships he built with everyone, and I must add that I really liked him as he was, I hope the change is not too big. (maybe).

Managed to finished the game after my previous post, all I can say is it's greater game than I'd imagined. Unique story and settings, definitely not what I had in mind when I first started, but it had me constantly guessing what might come next. Characters are cute and fun, although them having the same speech pattern is odd to say the least and had me always trying to look out as to who is currently speaking, but I can't really fault the dev since it's only 1 person working on the game... There are also phrases that just kept being repeated throughout the story, but I am sure comments here have already talk about it.

If you are looking to fap, this isn't the game. But if you want some good mystery VN to waste time on, you've found a treasure here. All the previous comments praising this game aren't exaggerations.

Kinda sucks that I now have another game in my "waiting-for-update" pile, but i digress.

edit: man the withdrawal hits hard... i should stop getting into still-in-progress games, but i watched onepiece my entire life so this shouldn't be that bad, right?

Momoe's length is getting on my nerves. I can't hold back, it had to be said. Seriously, my brain cannot compute this. Out of all the characters, why her? She's taller than the nurse for gods sake... Taller than a good number of them in fact, taller than me, yet she looks so... innocent? Cute? Man, I don't know, I just can't stop thinking about this every time I see her. Maybe she is suppose to give that motherly vibe but I just can't quite feel it.

Attachment won't load, but assuming you mean her 5th event 'So Be It', almost certainly a mistake, probably from the author forgetting exactly what happened I'd guess. The writing can be a little off at times, at least in syntax, so I imagine it's something that wasn't double checked.

Aight, so I'm caught up now. Normally I would be posting a mega spoiler containing raw reaction, but I realize there is a very small number of people who can deal with that many words(more than you think). So I'm just putting some other things, general thoughts about the game, speculation on the current ending and stuff like that. It's all a jumbled mess, but ehh, it's very short. 0.13 spoiler warning btw, although I think that's obvious.

Oh, and also please confirm if you are able to enter sandbox mode after finishing the current version. I wasn't given that opportunity contrary to what the start of the game said.

I also noticed I'm suppose to be able to access sandbox mode after reaching the end of all currently playable events but... that did not happen. The beginning of the game lied to me then. Maybe you just can't do that on a chapter switch, but that feels kinda shitty to rob players of that option.

It's probably a chapter end oversight. When I've been updating this game randomly to check things it has always ended with a automatic "end of update, save here to wait for next update or press this button to enter the sandbox". I don't recall exactly how this one ended now because I'm in the middle of juggling HDD space and this game lost the math battle, but I think it was a black screen this time.

Personally I'm still waiting for this game to hook me, but even LiL took a year or so to do that.
