Woo! First Sunday devlog! What's going on y'all?
I'm personally doing fine. Still overworked, but getting used to it. I've spent a good chunk of this week writing Bonnie and Jeremy scenes and outlining what her path for this update is going to look like. Speaking of V5, I have some news.
Given that the last one was a couple days longer than usual, this one is going to be... probably longer. Fuck formulas and structured releases at this point honestly. The 19 days per update thing is going to be treated as a minimum from now on, not as a standard. The reasoning behind this decision is pretty much the same reasoning I've used to rid myself of previous formulaic approaches (Big events for each character on every 20th day, etc...). If I write an update with a 19 day constraint in mind, it restricts my creativity and makes me work in a weird self-imposed timeframe. Some story beats might need longer than 19 in-game days to conclude, so there's no reason to not make the update longer to fit the story beats rather than the other way around.
It's too soon right now to give you an accurate number of days V5 is going to cover, but you can be sure it's going to be more than 19-20.
Now, what are the stories for each character looking like?
As I said in the beginning, and in a previous devlog, Bonnie's still being developed. I've written three scenes (and rendered two) for her and Jeremy, and they're pretty normal. Just letting their friendship develop in a natural way. I have a rough idea as to what's going to happen down the line, but I'm still a little hazy on the pacing of it. I'm going to need to write a bit more and wait for inspiration to hit or for something to finally click before I commit to her more important parts in the story later on.
Whenever I wasn't writing Bonnie, I was writing Marissa this week. I've started easing Justin into her story, but her arc with Flora is still in full swing. I'll level with you, I won't stop developing V5 until the story reaches a point that makes it clear that Justin has the biggest role to play in Marissa's story. How that point comes across however is something I'm yet to set in stone, but again, I have a lot of rough ideas. I'll draft them and stick with what works best, then work my way back.
I'm lumping the two of them together because they're the ones I've worked on the least thus far. It's fine though, because I have a very clear idea where their stories are headed this update, so the drafting and coming up with events part of their developing won't take much time at all.
And finally, the patch! Whatever happened with that?
Still working on it. Most of it is menial work, but I won't lie, I've pushed it back a bit due to time constraints. Whenever I have time before leaving for work or after coming back, I've found myself dedicating towards developing V5 instead of working on the patch. Starting tomorrow, I'm putting it back at the top of my prio list.
And that's all! Thanks for tuning in this week, and see you next Sunday (Or maybe sooner, who knows!)
