But man, the grammar/english/general syntax in this game is way worse than their previous game. Different writer/coder? Something has gone very off the rails.

I think it's actually somewhat of a hybrid. It looks like it was 3D models that got 2D art layered over it. Absolutely love how the characters look and I would really like to know what Ero uses to make these.
