I could describe the history to you, I've been following it for more than 7 years, sometimes even before I even joined this forum. But then my comment will be blocked again. The bottom line is that it doesn't matter anymore. The developer has made his decision, as his early fans did.

The Vanlla route, which the developer ultimately chose, also has its problems:
It's the quality. In the last third of DMD game practically consisted only of plagiarism over and over again, scenes that had already been seen 100 times. And only the D/F route only is worth playing, all other routes, even if you choose other LIs, still consist of more than 90% of the same content as the D/F only route. Even after the was bent in this direction, DMD never became the great, varied vanilla game that it was advertised as. Even entire parts of the story were not implemented in the end. What about D's school days? What about the swinger couple in the neighborhood? Both of these practically no longer exist in the last part. These are just 2 examples. After more than 7 years of development, maybe 1000s of hours of development time and a lot of money that the patreons put into it, in the end only a mediocre game came out that doesn't stand out from the crowd. And that's why many, including quite a few die-hard fans, have simply lost interest.

The developer did a much better job with Sunshine Love: All LIs got a decent story and content, including mostly unique lewd scenes. Unfortunately there was a massive drop in quality with the last update. There was hardly any story left, and many of the endings were either not animated at all or were of poor quality, at least in direct comparison with the rest of the game. Apart from that, the game is really great

And that's the developer's problem: he just can't manage to maintain the quality until the end of his games.
I agree with you about say, more or less the last 2 years of DmD being bad, and I agree even more about storylines simply left out or underdevelopped, like the swingers or Elena's stepfather (or uncle or whatever, don't remember) and a few others. But for some reasons, which are probably a mix of character design, base story and my personal taste, I still find DmD incredibly superior to SL. Even Melody is better than SL in my opinion. SL had 1.5 girls I liked, and horrible tedious writing. I never cared about animations, I don't think seeing 3 seconds loops of anything adds much to the quality of a game. Long animations in games like Symphony of the Serpent or previous games from the same devs are better in my book. But not everybody has the ressources to make those. So that's why to me SL is in the bottom of the pile of MrDots games, although considering the last game failed to raise my interest even to the level of SL, I guess SL is top 3 out of 4 games.

I think you are a little confused, just some of your ideas are correct but poorly analyzed, indeed the fans influenced the development of DMD a lot but for the worse, it caused so much controversy at the time the original ideas of the authors (because there are several) that the people who paid for the game made them discard ideas that were originally held (swing, ntr, interacial, etc.), it is not the only work that has suffered from external situations, perhaps it is no longer so remembered because the game is 8 years old since its journey began and at high points in history people were very divided and that made the authors have than to back down, you are wrong about something else, the game is not a mediocre game at all since 3 years after it ended people keep asking for more content, a mediocre product does not achieve that.
I think they could have go on with DmD almost forever, if only for the fact that it's a landmark "brand". It was one of the first VNs who made an impact in this niche, on the same level as SummerTime Saga.
Maybe I'm wrong, but even if they'd only made 3 or 4 updates of Dmd per year, and not make them boring, which was the problem towards the end, there would still be enough people who'd enjoy it today.

Now I know there might be several reasons they wanted to stop DmD and do other things, but I always wondered which of the reasons leaned more heavily on the balance. I can see 3 main reasons :
- They had several issues with Patreon, and having a game titled "Dating my Daughter" wasn't profitable anymore.
- They were just bored to do the same thing since years.
- Whatever was planned for DmD in the early days wasn't acceptable for a vocal part of their customers. So let's end it and create games who are enjoyed by these people AND Patreon, where MC is the only guy to have sex in the world, and not with his own descendants.

3 possible reasons, and probably others I didn't think about, but I wonder which one is the main one.

On some unrelated note, I think the only way for people like me to have some enjoyable new game starring Dee, once they finish Fantasy Scene, is to have a Female Protagonist game with Dee, which will probably never happen. But would be a good solution because the anti-NTR crowd wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. They need their childish power fantasy of "I am the only man having sex in the world" too much.
And you my friend I think you are not a fan of DMD rather you are a fan of Dee's model, which is not bad but without one there would be no other.
