Do you view games here just as porn or something more?

I got to somewhat agree with OP here. If your looking for a Rpg game you don't come here. Same for a good VN: there are much better non sexual ones than any adult one you can find.

I would say it's something between porn and an actual game. It has more elements and story than regular porn, but it doesn't have the quality a normal game has. For good reasons really: if you could make an high quality game, why would you limit your audience to adult gamers?

And Kytee makes a good point: in most good vns (DeLuca family, Broken dreams) you could litterly remove the sex scenes and still have a decent VN. The adult scenes doesn't add much to the stories really. With the larger freedom of topics, shouldn't adult VNs explore more adult themes, where sex scenes would feel less 'forced'.

First of all, I think that a good story increases the impact of the sex scene.
Simply seeing two people fuck is not that exciting.
It is the background what makes it exciting, so you need a story.

Some games provide just that: a (rather thin) background for lots of sex. Sometimes this is pretty effective, like in Sisterly Lust. Not that deep a story but enough to make the sex scenes interesting.

Some games go way deeper. Sometimes a maybe bit too deep for a porn game, like the last update of DeLuca Family (Luna's abduction) which was fantastic story telling but also boner killing. On the other hand, that scene, although hard to watch and certainly not "sexy", did massively increase Luna's character depth so that finally having sex with her will be much more meaningful than what it would have been otherwise. Personally I think that the DeLuca Family story would not be out of place in a AAA Hollywood movie, but I guess that HopesGaming is not in a position to write for Hollywood. Few are, for various reasons. That doesn't mean that the story should not be told or that it's somehow out of place here.

I guess it's up to the player to decide what he likes to play and what he likes to fap to. And sometimes the fapping session turns out different than expected. But to me that is part of the fun.

Context usually makes porn more interesting/exciting/sexier. The amount of context necessary vary from person to person. Sometimes a small video of a guy fucking a girl with the title "Teaching my step-sister about sex before her boyfriend" is enough. Sometimes, some people want more. Like when you go after some hentai material of your new favorite anime, or when you watch a regular movie and think "I'd love to see these two fucking" and go after fakes or whatever, or how watching someone you know (or someone who looks like them) is enough to make things more interesting to you.

That's what most adult games (specially VNs) try to blend - a story that will entertain you and make you more interested in the characters and situations to make the pornographic scenes better.
Some devs and players prefer more sexy material in their games, others a more dense story. There is no need to complain or change things, there is enough material for everybody =)

Some people don't even fap to games but love playing them before watching a video to fap.

I don't mind porn-weighted adult games at all! But if the plot goes full romantic or starts taking itself too serious using drama-elements, photo-realistic renders and what else, it suddenly becomes uncomfortable doing things I wouldn't do IRL.

Best example for porn to enjoy with no regrets is Adventures of Willy D for me (too foolish to get mad with the MC)
However! If you want to be part of a good adult story, I'd suggest you to try Acting Lessons.

So, to sum up - remember that, at the end of the day, you are making a porn game. Or, if you are not, then be ready to be judged more harshly because now you are being compared to other, non-porn games. And, if that happens, it might turn out that when the game stops being seen just as wank material, no one wants to read your shitty story.
Bitch please. Internet is MADE OF wank material. People here complaining about not obtaining instant sexual gratification just pisses me off. Yo want random hot bodies doing the hardcore stuff without no context just to cum in a matter of minutes? Go watch some free porn in any porn website. You know they have short clips that go right to the point, right? Ah, you need 2D cartoonish hot characters with no context instead of real porn, you say? Well, there's these things called imageboards, boorus, etc. Oh, but you need a 3D rendered model that looks almost human but not enough? Seriously, did you all fall in love with a barbie when you were kids? Nevermind, there's plenty of those out there too, i've seen it. And with better animation than anyhing I've ever seen in any game from this website.

I ask mainly TWO things from my adult games. One, some dose of interactivity, I do not care about the amount if it's at least a noticeable amount. And two, some story (No matter how deep, silly, realistic or absurd, but with internal consistency regardless) so I can connect at some degree with the characters in that game, either by feeling invested and caring about them or by enhancing some fetishes via context or situational kinkness. Also neither the MC, nor the developer being too much of a jerk. Ok, that's THREE musts. Period. Anything past that is already better than the average porn. To me, at least.

Hell, I don't even need to fap to some of the games I play. I just enjoy erotism. Teasing. An interesting story that has room for sex scenes, which is something mainstream media lack for ""morality"" reasons. Or good-witten drama. Not 'Acting Lessons' kind of cheap drama (Sorry, not sorry), but breathtaking masterfully well-written drama such as the kind HopesGaming or naughtyroad are capable of pull off through their story-craftmanship. Speaking of which...

Why did I bother to write such a large, thick rant? I can beat your argument with only four (4) words.

LIGHT. OF. MY. LIFE.

A bit of a rant:

.....art is not what I come looking here for. I just want to get my rocks off. Because to me most of the games here are porn. A fact that some developers seem to disagree with. Or at least forget.

--------

All that... in a porn game. Which presumably the player started up, not because he wants to hear what sort of "deep" observations the developer has on the nature of human condition, but because he wanted to jerk off. And now he cannot do that because he has to click through 15 minutes of really not that interesting story before he can get any action. Or he gets pissed off with the personal drama of the paper-thin characters in the game. That is not good porn game design.
-----

-----

So, to sum up - remember that, at the end of the day, you are making a porn game. Or, if you are not, then be ready to be judged more harshly because now you are being compared to other, non-porn games. And, if that happens, it might turn out that when the game stops being seen just as wank material, no one wants to read your shitty story.

---

So... What do you think guys? Do you see games here just as wank material and think that they should focus on the quality of "action" or do you welcome titles that go beyond that?

I hear what you're saying, I've come across a few reasonably fun games on this site. But for the most part, I generally get through about 5 to 20 minutes of a game before the MC if not all the characters make me do a palm to forehead or glare at the screen in frustration. After which I mostly just delete the game.

Stranger yet to me, is that, a lot of developers of games on this site either loath and despise the player/MC. Which I find disgusting. Or they have that and also have the MC talking about how useless they are whether in the inner monologue or with other NPC. Which again to me is even more off the walls insane.

I mean if I wanted to be insulted for the fun of it (makes my stomach ill just thinking that), I'd visit some social media site and talk about some political something or other that to get reactions, (also something that turns my stomach to think about).

Yet games that insult the player or have unnecessary grind or crazier yet are all tease and never any action, those games seem to be really popular on this site. Or even games that start off throwing you right into watching characters having sex, despite the player having no idea of what's going on, then having it over with just as quick and no further "action" and just teases the remainder of the game.

If you want wank material, use porn.
A lot of the games here are what could best be described as adult games, not porn games. They're not designed for you to get your rocks off quickly, they are there to entertain, with the option for a wank if you want it.

Aside for splitting hairs between the distinction between adult games and porn games, "...Not Thea Lundgren". And, sort of the slight lecturing tone. I still have to give you a nod of respect, for being able to find what sounds like a lot of games you find entertaining on this site. All respect to the website itself. But the vast majority of games I've found here, are on exact opposite side of what I'd call entertaining!

I do occasionally find a game now and then that does have its weight in sexy fun AND by that I'm referring to both porn and entertainment quality. But it's not very often I come across those.

Ah, but isn't that part of the fun?

I think part of the appeal of these games is that we get to experience things through the eyes of an MC, which we would never do IRL for various reasons.

I think this is one of the reasons why the incest and NTR themes are so popular. People don't want that kind of stuff IRL but it can be fun to fantasize and experience it from a somewhat safe distance.

I can't wank to a porn without decent story and they are hard to find. Mine doesnt stimulate like that I need good story and these kinda games are the solution for me. I love the gameplay in some of them thus my wanking becomes more enjoyable.

There are many variations of Adult games/Novels.

I kinda understand your rant OP.. but its to me weak. F95 is a pirate site with Adult content in what ever form Adult applies.
Scarlet Spyre has no nudity/porn whatsoever. Even my game has been quoted as too little porn/sex but a very evolved story.

If you want to fap, Milfy City, FilF, My cute roommate etc..
If you actually feel like some emotion, Our Fate, The Intoxicating Flavor, Reluctant Archon etc...

I love novels/games where i care for the characters more than just tits and ass.

Give me one example of an "adult game" here where wanking is not the most entertaining part and if you take that out, the rest isn't just kind of "meh"?
City of broken dreamers...take away the smut and you get an engaging cyberpunk story

The series of The Witcher on Netflix would, presumably, be thought of as porn by some, because oh goodness it has boobies in it. And anyone who does think that is exactly the kind of person such scenes are added in for as an afterthought.

Porn is just one form of erotica of many, and there are centuries of tradition to most forms of erotica. In turn, erotica is just one of many forms of 'emotional titillation' that we calls as entertainment. Something designed to please one or another thing from which you derive pleasure, whether that is a cerebral 'thought exercise', a comedy that teases your sense of humor, or something designed to make you feel aroused in a far less cerebral sense.

I have never fapped to a game, nor to a cartoon. Hell, I'm fussy enough about actual porn where if the terrible attempt to create a story actually gets in the way of imagining your own, especially if the dialogue (or delivery thereof) is shit, it just won't be erotic. For most people eroticism is a lot more than just masturbation, and is all in the head.

Now, we all have a consensus in a community like this to not kink-shame others. If games and cartoons get you going then all power to you. But have the same respect and understanding that not everyone is like yourself.

For me, if I want porn, I go to an actual porn site, one with a huge range, find exactly the scene, girl, and setting I want. There's no shortage. To me, the idea of downloading a VN or game, and having to maybe play for an hour to reach anything hot, which even then often wasn't explicitly known to be there when I started, is just crazy. I cannot understand it. I won't shame it, but I can't understand it.

And that's okay. Whether I understand it or not makes not one single fuck of difference to those who do it that way.

Meanwhile, I play games and VNs here for the stories. I delight in the creativity of developers and writers, and enjoy the novelty, cleverness, etc of their work. Even the sexiest in-game scene isn't going to do any more for me than maybe make me decide to look at some actual porn later.

If you don't understand that, that too is fine. It makes not one single fuck of difference to me and what I enjoy.

It's a big world, and they call us 'individuals' for a reason. We're not all the same, not in culture, not in goals, not in tastes, and we will never be able to understand viewpoints that are far enough removed from our own - only learn to respect the rights of others to have such views as they accept ours.

A bit of a rant:

I'm the first guy to say that video games can be art. But art is not what I come looking here for. I just want to get my rocks off. Because to me most of the games here are porn. A fact that some developers seem to disagree with. Or at least forget.

In porn, anything that detracts from your ability to actually fap is a negative quality. Which is why I don't get developers that for example bog down their games with way too wordy, overly ambitious stories. Or suddenly decide to be all deep, subvert tropes and basically tell the player "fuck off with your wish fulfillment, this is serious fucking business", like in Acting Lessons.

All that... in a porn game.

Of course, I'm all for creating meaningful storytelling experiences. But if that is what you set out to do, then be ready for your work to be judged based on a higher standard. The same generic DAZ 3D models, your "ambitious" story interjected with poorly justified sex scenes or clunky gameplay in case of games which include that. We forgive all that stuff because it's a porn game and what matters is whether you can fap to it.

It's not a $100 dinner in a fancy restaurant, it's a cheap burger in a shady joint that you wandered into at 3 AM while completely wasted. And when I do that, I just want something that is filling, somewhat tasty and convenient. I don't want the waiter to take 20 minutes just to set up the table just so I can get some appetizers.

Don't get me wrong though - I'm not saying that you can put some interesting, maybe even ambitious things in a porn game. Stories CAN enhance the experience. But when it starts to detract from the fapping experience, it's not a good porn game.

So... What do you think guys? Do you see games here just as wank material and think that they should focus on the quality of "action" or do you welcome titles that go beyond that?
Your post is in itself contradictory... using your food metaphor, it seems you're the kind of guy that eats sushi from a strand in the subway...and nothing wrong with that, however you're very judgmental towards chefs that want to make an engaging experience for all senses.. according to a study, food has a better effect if it's neatly served on clean plates, lit candles, good music, an artistic decor plus good music.
Let's analyze the game scene.
1) assets are often the same so if a game was just fapping, no one would remember it once the deed was done, unlike with pornstars that are unique.
2)due to point 1 devs have to add something the players would remember... story, music and gameplay that would give meaning to the sex scenes.
3) game devs have their own ambitious aspirations and they want to provide their supporters with the best experience...
4) "Norma games" have a budget of millions, give the devs of games posted here the same budget and we'll talk about comparison.
5) the harsher criticism games receive are not based on porn, but the things you deem deterrent from the fapping.
This is not an attack on you and I have nothing against your personal opinion but, the last time an ideological minority was given power, the third reich was formed so I hope devs will continue on the path of adult games with equally good sex and story

There's also another reason why adult games have character development and story... unfortunately our society causes people's alienation and for some games are their substitute for human interactions. For those a game like The Deluca Family is perfect with how deep the story goes... Luna's backstory is tragic but gives an outlet for people's empathy. In this digital age, ironically we need everything that makes us feel human. And when the sex with Luna will happen... It's gonna be glorious due to the journey.... It's like listening to Aerosmith on the radio compared to being at a concert... first row

Old enough to remember when porn movies was actual movies with cheesy plots and acting, but still way more entertaining than majority of porn today.

I look at these games as entertainment for adults. With adult content. It's not something I sit down to jerk off to, it's more about get a giggle and wind down with. If you just want to spank the money, the net is full of actual women (or guys, goats, whatever tickle your fancy) to do that too. 3d models, more than often been used over and over again in other games doesn't really do the trick for me. Inclined to say (good) erotic fiction is more prone to get your engine humming, than 3d visuals. Your brain is the most erotic organ you got. You can read a book, later see the book made a movie of, and find it utter shit. Because it nothing like how you did picture it when you read the book. Story rich games leave a bigger footprint if done well. But hey, as with life else, some just fancy picture books I suppose.

RogueKnightUK It's kinda funny though. The nudeness and erotics in "The Witcher" series on Netflix is tame in comparison of what you can find in the Witcher games by CDPR. Heck, the adult themes of that game series, and even some of the Bioware games of the past rivals (by a good margin) games found on this site.

I found about half of the nudity in the TV series of The Witcher to be so gratuitous and obviously put in as an afterthought (it had no bearing on the scene or story at all) that it actually got in the way - it distracted me to notice how desperately hard someone was forcing it in there, out of any meaningful context, and so was distracting and immersion risking.

Not the actual sex scenes between characters, but scenes like the 'garden of eden' thing going on in the first mage's tower, or the mass orgy in the scene where Geralt first meets Yennifer, which she's obviously not enjoying much, and which seems to have no reason, nor repercussions. Just scenes added to make little schoolboys talk about the show a lot and give it free advertising with their age-group, and the extra views that can bring.

Well, the scene in the mages tower, was explained by the mage as a illusion to please the eye (or whatever), I guess if you holed up in a tower to afraid to venture out. You might possible want some naked ladies to lay your eyes on rather than the stone walls, just a thought.

As with the "orgy" scene with Yennifer. She uses the people as "playthings" for her own amusement. Not necessary for her to get her rocks off and enjoy it that way. When she calls off the spell/trance, whatever, and you see the reaction of the people coming out of it, kinda funny. Just the start of that chain, when Geralt get faced by the butt naked mayor, you kinda knew something wicked was going on.

Yes you got a point there. Though there is a line to cross between things I can't do (for reasons) and things I wouldn't do. You say, incest and NTR are so popular because the internet is (the abyss) made for crossing lines? I say, their popularity is either regional or rather hyped to squeeze money out of horny people worldwide. The spicier the better, probably. And by the way, I love cynicism (Nietzsche)

If Nietzsche could play adult games from F95, he probably wouldn't have gotten syphilis and his cynism would be unknown to the world. However I would differentiate between the incest and the NTR crowd as the incest guys are all about the woman while the NTR side is focused on the dudes. Thinking it's a regional thing is rather silly, I know people from all civilised continents that would play an incest game

Just porn...games? Definitly not here expecting some high-level super in-depth storyline which could compete with GOT or something, I think people expecting deep story-lines and want a "great story with some porn sprinkled in, maybe in 7 updates" are actively ruining this website.
