Probably not until it's actually abandoned. Dev just posted an update July 25, 2020

True they didn't say much and just provided a cute pinup but they keep trekking along
I see your point but the only thing this dev has been doing with his monthly updates is provide excuses. This thread was launched in 2016 we are nearing 2021.

Yeah it has been a long time in development and I'm not hopeful it will be done by 2021. Still maybe by December there will be another updated Demo :sneaky:

Last progress report with a graph was in which also had a baby & goth pinup. By well things went to shit so progress being slow wasn't likely to improve however there was a bear pinup, April was skipped, was a Cute Dragon Girl in a box of chocolates, June was skipped, and finally was a cuddle pinup.

If you look at the Original Campaign the Estimated Delivery was Nov 2016.

Now why am I not too harsh with a fledgling dev that didn't know anything, well I read the risk
"This is our first project on KickStarter, and admittedly we have no experience making games or getting funded."

A part of me is actually surprised they still send out "Still Alive" messages as I've seen many others simply fade to obscurity. So while going at a snails pace it still leaves me with a sliver of hope that maybe someday

And while this is a cheap shot the Developer is a woman, so time management jokes go here :p

Mari is the creator and director of Dragon Date, and the owner of the newly formed Akemari Studios. If you've ever spoken with Akemari Studios you were talking to Mari. Also she's done all the coding up until this point. This is her first game but she's really excited, and working her hardest. Also she's writing this, which makes it a little strange she keeps referring to herself in the third person. "

Well, it is true that she at least hasn't dissapeared. Though people may be inclined to draw parralels with yanderedev.
I still hold out hope, made a lot easier by not having invested in it and as such not feeling like someone might have run of with my money. Not saying she did but some may feel that way.

Also what does that last sentence mean?

Well thing with Akemari is she still cares about the fans while I can't say the same for YandereDev, at least I haven't heard of Akemari hosting any ban parties :ROFLMAO: plus her code isn't a buggy mess, really YandereDev had a real company review his code and they backed away quickly.

Took the money and ran erm more like she bit off way more then she could chew... She used up the original Kickstarter money some time ago, hopefully a lesson learned.

The last sentence? You mean like a woman says she will be ready in just a minute then 3 hours pass or she said by 2016 and more than 3 years have past?

It could be worse.
At least you are getting the some art while you wait.
They could have pulled an But I love you or an Unsung Story, actual kickstarter disaster.
The art is great at least so even the art we get is high quality.
I speak for those who havent backed it of course, those who did have all the right and justifications to do so.

If there would be consistiv updates over each and every month, me and many others would be glad.

Even if it is just a few lines of text, what approximately was made that month. Even if it just polishing the HUD or something like that.

But i have still hopes, that this Game will be released this or next year.

Nope. Partially on hiatus at the moment though. Been working 50 hour weeks to accumulating the funds to push through to completion. Still working on DD on my off time but yea.

Sorry I am so slow
That was posted on their kickstarter a week ago.

Game is 3 and a half years overdue, probably looking at another 3 and a half years before it finally sinks in this is never going to be finished and I lost money.

Such a shame because it seemed pretty good from what I played. Then I started reading the forums and realized it's yet another good idea stuck in development hell for years with no real progress.

There are a few of us here that backed it on Kickstarter years ago and since then all we've had is a demo along with 3 and a half years of excuses.

Less expensive porno star citizen.
Even Star Citizen has updates though, it just wont release have a full release until 2350. Seems this project hasn't had much of anything for 3 years. I can understand being new to development but they're clearly capable of creating a VN using this engine, all they need to do is add to what they have and that should not take 3 years.

Star Citizen won't ever get a full release, it's not as profitable.

Hey guys,

So it's 2021 now... Happy new year. I am like 99% sure I said the game would be coming out in 2020 but, well, here we are. In my defense, 2020 was a shockingly terrible year, wrought with distractions, setbacks, and hardships. That said, I didn't really write this for the sake of making excuses. I just wanted everyone to know that I'm still here and still working on the game.

I also wanted to say sorry, as always, that everything went so far off course. I know no one signed up for such a long and frustrating development cycle. That said, while I'm obviously depressed about the past, I'm optimistic about the future. Dragon Date will be released in 2021. Even if lots of people have given up by now (Which is totally understandable) I really need to see this through, for myself more than anything. And also, for the people who've stuck with me through all of this, and the artists who've worked so hard to bring the world of Dragon Date to life.

Everyone stay safe out there and I'll see you in the next month or two at the latest.

~ Mari

Supposedly a better update bar or something in a few days.

Remember this game got Kickstarted in 2016... How for a basic ass Visual Novel does it take 5 years to finish after it got funded?

Like so many others atop the grave pile; poor management skills, biting off way more than they could chew, and hyping up the workload.

Akemari would have made way more money having this as a Patreon or SubscribeStar. Instead the $15,376 was likely burned through in the first year and now she has Backers expecting a product along with lack of funds to deliver that product.

Good question. It's hard to show hard evidence work is being done. I can show screenshots from the game, including screenshots of CG that hasn't been released yet (Although I don't want to show too much of it, for obvious reasons), but screenshots are pretty easily fabricated.

As for the progress bar, I have been taking a good look at it and I have a bit of an idea of how to fix it and get a more visual representation of progress. I'm a bit worried because depressingly little progress was made in 2020, and I do have a habit of exaggerating progress somewhat (Sorry about that >n <).

So what I'm saying is, give me a few more days, maybe a week. I've been bouncing back and forth between working on DD and toying with the update. I want to break it down scene by scene and show which ones are 100% completed, which ones need a little work, and which ones need major fixes or rewrites. The result might wind up depressing but at least it will get everyone on the same page.

Sorry for everything, update coming within the next week.

Sure but patreon wasn't the cash cow it has become the last 3 years. Hell the game mentions Steam Greenlight which I think was a single year thing. I am surprised they haven't moved to a patreon though for "additional funds" but fuck 5 years, in that time it could have been finished and the dev gets a following to easily make more money from then on.

Ah the horrors that were Steam Greenlight :devilish: still wiki claims it lasted from RIP

I'm surprised they haven't tried for . It would go nicely with the physical copy of the game, soundtrack, art book, and mouse pad. Could have did Dragon lingerie, shirts, or :sneaky: So many missed opportunities for merch.

Anyways here is hoping this is the year but I wouldn't put good money on it until Akemari says they got the Partial Voice Acting stretch goal done.
