Yeah... once upon a time I had the same problem... At first I didn't really know what to do...
But the thing is...
Everyone is looking at: .../AppData/Roaming/RenPy/*nameYourRenPyGame*
But you also have to look into your actual "game" folder...
For example: ...DreamsOfDesireEP10-ELITE blabla/game/saves

Try to insert your save file to that directory and it might work
(If you already did, try the other way around )

I wouldn't say that these games are the most popular. I'd say that these games attract the most obsessed kind of player. Moreover, some of their threads are infested with shitposting, unwanted and unnecessary opinions about Patreon and people complaining about nasty bugs.

My favourite games here are Tlaero&Mortze's games: how many times did I post anything about them? twice, maybe three-four times.
How many times did I post anything about DoD? many many times.

I actually came across this game by chance on piratebay as a torrent. Dont recomend using those, filled with trojans and malware. (Bitcoin and CPU-harvesters).
