I think what he meant was just that when you have like 20 time slots per day it rapidly gets boring as the amount of content for so many slots each day must be huge. In case of BB you just pressed skip on and on after a certain point because you had nothing to do but needed to wait for days or even weeks to make some progress. It's not very interesting to help a character for the 30th time to wash the dishes etc.

In Milfy City you have just morning - afternoon - evening - night, so not that many slots to fill.

Which part, the hourly cycle? In most of those its clicking until you get to a specific time, see a scene then have to click a bunch to another specific time. With no content in between, and usually have to grind to see what is there.

Its really a moodkiller that you have to watch through shower, breakfast, lunch, dinner, cofee each day every day and you have to do that like for a month only to progress from a smile to being able to brush her hair.

Sandbox games are trying to simulate life so they require a lot of non-erotic renders, actions and scenes (breakfast, washing dishes etc.) to feel realistic as well as tons of voyeuristic events and npcs. But if done well they offer much more than VN as they tend to give some freedom of choice. At this point we have Glamour, Tyrant and Bright Past that try to achieve it in some way or another but it might take a long time to develop such a thing to the playable state. I'd love to see it tho

Well, to be fair, you never know if his concept is actually good and the hourly cycle in his game stays interesting. We are just a bit prejudiced and thus sceptical so to speak.

Designing a sandbox game can be approached a lot of ways. I played both games you have mentioned.
I don't want to - in any way - shit on other devs' work. Just wanted to point that out before continuing.

If the player feels like they have nothing to do and is just skipping time, that's not the fault of the sandbox archetype, it's the fault of a poorly designed game.
My job as the design lead of the team is to come up with ways to solve the inherent issues that sandbox games usually posess in our industry. It is certainly much more challenging than designing a linear experience / visual novel but in my opinion, if done right, it can be much more rewarding for the player.

I have come across games (back in the day when I wasn't a developer) where I had to grind for literally 20 minutes to be able to progress. It wasn't fun.

I'm aiming to make a fun game.

The worst example I can think,despite I like the game,is Au-Pair Innocence.The game use the hour system and most days you have hardly anything to do than spam wait 1 hour button.In the best days you can do like 4-5 things for 24 hours.Some days you just skipp all hours.BB was better but still most of events are around same hours and there is still 6 hours windows without nothing.The Tyrant is too early but the grind so far is realy unrewarding.The Twist and Glassix are the only ones that make good use of the hour system.Some games use part of days instead of hour system-Lab Rats,Corruption,Summertime Saga.

You are right, I just played that and the cum really looks better, although I never had any problems with DoD for that matter.
Noticed this too, is the maker of DoD going to back through these episodes (once they are done) to make those parts better? Or can only patreon members make suggestion? The internal cum choice scenes also would be better if they showed an x-ray internal or at least show the aftermath.

Edit: also I guess I should direct this question to Lewdlab, since I did not know they post here
