Dev Log. 2025-05-03

Hey, guys! What's uuuuuuuup?

Sorry for the late dev log. Today's been crazy.
Well, this week's been wild. My PSU simply decided to freakin' EXPLODE(not literally, lol) and leave me hanging. Thanks to you guys, I was able to buy a new one. Otherwise, this would've been a major setback.
So, the update is "technically" ready. I'm gonna give myself a week or two for proofreading since there's a lot to read and tweak, make sure there are no loose ends, but I think that's about it.

Render Progress:
- Jasmin & Julie Neighborhood scene: 100%
- Jasmin Scene: 100%
- Household Scene: 100%
- Sophia Scene: 100% (Added a few more renders for this scene)
- Household Return Scene: 100%
- Sophia Scene²: 100% (Also added a few more renders here)
- Sleep Scene: 75% -> 100%

Animations Progress:
- 95% (Still haven't tweaked the last animation)

Script Progress:
- Jasmin & Julie Neighborhood scene: 100%
- Jasmin Scene: 100%
- Household Scene: 100%
- Sophia Scene: 100%
- Household Return Scene: 100%
- Sophia Scene: 100%
- Sleep Scene: 100%

Proofreading:
- Jasmin & Julie Neighborhood scene: 100%
- Jasmin Scene: 100%
- Household Scene: 95%
- Sophia Scene: 95%
- Household Return Scene: 95%
- Sophia Scene: 95%
- Sleep Scene: 95%

Oh yeah, and before I forget!
I'm fine-tuning the soundtrack for each scene. For some scenes, it's harder to find the right track that fits the moment and mood just right. But I'll keep trying. The sound effects are also a bit tricky, but I'll manage.
As for a release date, I'll give it in the next dev log. If I'm confident the update is ready by next Saturday, then I'll start the Patreon Early Access right away.
Cheers!

How long is it? I don't think I can tolerate it much futher.
It's been so long that I don't remember how long the prologue was. But honestly, if you don't like what you are seeing now you should save yourself the trouble and just drop it. It's not like the prologue and the current state of the game are night and day graphics-wise. Take a look at the previews posted above on this page. It's all just HS1 after all.

Check the previous page for some recent previews, that's more or less how it looks nowadays but I don't think the models changed a lot from the prologue, maybe it's just not for you.
Yeah - I always liked the art in this one, it does get better but it never bothered me.

Sure, and you also have Pale Carnations in your signature which is also HS1. Ripples and PC each use extremely modified versions of HS1 that no other developer has matched as far as I've seen. Ripples also goes for a brighter almost Disney like aesthetic which is in line with it's cheery story tone. Dropout Saga is a much darker story and the dark art tone matches it.

If you don't care for the art, that's ok. Most of us stay because we enjoy the story.

The prologue was really Lazy just trying to figure things out and isn't a good representation of the game as it stands now.

Just finished the prologue, and... holy shit??!? how is this story so good?

Like, you have successfully made me give a damn about every single notable character, and I haven't even started the main game yet.

Graphics whiners gonna whine, but for basic HS1 models, you've definitely managed to put some solid personality into them. Add in good writing, and some pretty solid use of tone music, and it's a recipe for a story that'll sink its claws in and won't let go.
<.<
Ava's 'deer in the headlights' expression is the best, though.

Then you will enjoy the main game for sure, it's when the story becomes even better.

I really love the story and the characters even more. I'll take good writing over slick images any day of the week even though I do love the look and feel. I can't think of another title that explores social and political structures anywhere near as well as this one and in an interesting way. If Eva would just break her neck making pancakes or something then all would be right with the world. :)

Just gonna throw up my favorite render from my favorite scene in the title. At the gym during the kendo "lesson"

Hey, guys! What's uuuuuuuup?

Sorry about the delay. A little trouble in paradise.

This dev log is a bit different. I don't have much to show. I'm in the proofreading stage. That means reading and re-reading everything and rewriting anything that needs to be rewritten over and over again until I'm satisfied with it. All in all, the update is ready. I CONSIDERED adding one extra scene, but I think I'll leave it for the next update.

There's ONE particular scene, however, that I haven't reached that point of "Yeah, that's good. I'm keeping it." So that is delaying the update a little. I thought I'd be a little more confident about having a release date today. But nope. It will probably take one more week or so.

I'm running out of previews that don't spoil the plot, by the way.

So, the good news is, we'll have the update (both Patreon early access and the public update) ready by this month (90% sure? Don't want to make a full promise on that). The bad news is, I'm just not sure exactly when yet. Considering the Early access is one week earlier than the public update, I'd say the early access comes by May 24th tops. (Though I expect it to be sooner)

Talk to you guys soon!

Cheers!
