That's a problem with adding men - if you want them to look right, they need a separate skeleton... an that menas separate everything - animations, clothing, etc.. I speak from personal experience whan I say this: For a single dev, adding men means doubling your workload.
The cheap and easy workaround is to have men use the same skeleton, but you cannot avoid them looking effeminate. Given that the dev is effectively working on 2 games, trying to add proper men would absolutely tank any other progress and might even end the game altogether.
Just getting females to work was a struggle in my own project. Thousand of tweaks and fixes to the skeleton, the riggin and re-rigging (because things change and you have to change stuff). The very idea of having to do that again for males is enough to put a bullet trough my skull. If it was me I wouldn't even THINK of it until the entire rest of the game was done.
