Update: Right now, the game is madly broken when you load your save, even with the engine patch that came out today. It's an engine issue, nothing I can really do on my end except providing as much details as I can to the engine team (which are extremly talented and responsive). I'm preparing everything they may need right now so that hopefully they can fix it for their next patch release that should be out next week.

In the meantime I'll try to find workaround, and consider the possibility of releasing the update by completely removing the save/load feature (for the whole game. No matter when you load your save, whether it's in the convention or in chapter 1, it will break everything at the convention). It would really annoy me because a new player would have to play the game in one go, otherwise they would have to start over every time (or at least start over from the starting points that I can include), which is really annoying. But It's still a temporary solution, let me know what you think about it.
can you make a starting point for the last update? if you can i think it should be fine

Yes that's the solution I'll use if the problem persists, it'll just be very annoying for every new player that'll have to either finish the whole game in one go or start to chap 2 or 2.5. For example, if he plays up to, say, 2.3 and then leaves and comes back, he will either have to start all over again or start directly at 2.5 (which he will do in 99% of cases) and thus miss out on everything that came before

What if, new players just download 2.4 and then download the convention update which can be it's own standalone thing? And then 2.6 just starts after the convention? That way new players don't have to deal with the save issues because by the time 2.6 comes out the problem should be solved. Separating the game like that might be too much though.

I think, that if you can't downgrade to previous engine version and get it to work as intended, then using the starting point is good temporal solution, at least for this version of the game. With this release, you can collect additional bug reports and make patched version not so long after. I hope people will understand and forgive the unstableness of the version.

A lot of people have suggested this, but it's going to be annoying for new players to have to download two separate versions to play the full game, as well as confusing. I'd much rather wait a bit more try to fix things than use "ugly" workarounds like this for now. I'm doing my best to give the engine team as much feedback as I can to help them fix it, so let's hope it'll be fixed soon !

i would say put the game into chapters. like each update is its own chapter so when a new player comes or a old player they can start from different versions of the game.

Players can still use the old version to have saves. Moreover, the update may be delayed indefinitely.
The best is the enemy of the good. It is better to solve problems as they arise.

Imo the new update should just be released as a standalone then because there's no guarantee that this issue will be fixed anyway. Maybe have a like "beta" version then do a "full" version when the issue gets fixed.

Maybe early release on patreon and wait for the fix for public? That way new players wont encounter the issue but those waiting 3+ months can enjoybnew stuff!

Yeah, the problem with trying to open the project file on an older version of the engine is the code or scripts the engineers depreciated in future updates. Rolling back usually tends to make things significantly worse. To the point that the dev would be better off remaking the entire game using just that version of the engine.

Not to sound pushy, but I don't think it's a good idea to hold out for a third partie's fix, since it seems like the problem's around for some time already and there's no telling when it will be actually fixed, and this update has been taking a really long time compared to previous ones as it is.

Edit: To add to this, you can keep the game's previous version on the first page, that will be the one directed to new players, it has enough content to keep them entertained enough that they won't mind downloading the continuation, for returning players we can refer to the newly release version with predetermined starting point right where the last update left us, it will change nothing for us.

They are all interesting proposals and I really understand your desire to see the update appear as soon as possible. I am considering them all, but for the moment I really prefer to try to trace all the bugs to send to the engine team and see if we can fix it once and for all.

Once again, I apologise for this new delay, and I'm not looking for any excuse for it, but I've worked a lot on this update. It would trouble me to release it with such a significant concession on the game experience

you do you my friend but for all we know it's possible it won't be working until weeks or months(i hope not), i don't think it's really a big concession to be fair i mean people who already played through everything can play the new updates and newer players can either wait for the patch or play without saves (which i think it's fair), you can put a disclaimer to say it's better for new player to wait for a patch for a better experience while sastifying the older player base but hey maybe i'm wrong and the fix will come tomorrow or today lol

Personally i don't care if there is an option to save or not as long as the new update can start at the point where the last ended like it does in Sword Art Online: The Trap of Breath Concealed Magic; and if there is a possibilty of the engine fix not coming out, then i think that's the best solution, at least for now. I have been waiting for a while for some other games (blurring the walls for example), where the updates weren't coming out because of some reasons and it didn't really work that well for the players nor for the dev.
Whether the dev choses to give the update earlier without fix or later with the fix i'm still going to play it regardless as it is one of my favourite games on this site :D

I also think it would be a good idea (since it's been that long) to release the update on its own or with the option to start from it even without the ability to save. With a disclaimer for new players, of course (to avoid confusion). Old players still have their old saves and eventually (hopefully...) the bug will be fixed so we'll be able to resume regularly from those, playing this bit a second time isn't that big of a deal imo.
