It never is stated that there would be only one other male crew member on board. Upon boarding the Celestara, AURA mentions that you're the sixth arrival and currently the only male crew member present, ambiguously stating that the 'rest' is expected to arrive over the next forty-eight hours. Upon being introduced to the crew quarters, AURA explains that there are six cabins shared by two crew members each, to then add that male quarters are on one, female quarters on the other side of the corridor, though not detailing the exact layout of said corridor. She also mentions that your bunkmate has yet to arrive. On being called to the bridge by the Captain, she mentions that the bridge crew would normally be comprised of six people, but that she's only got two pilots, one AI, and you, the Joker (see MC's bio). Seeing how none of the ladies present on the ship at that moment have Pilot listed as their vocation, there's up to two addtional crew members to account for whose gender remains unclear. That being said, I feel the signs are a tad too vague and definitely get the confusion surrounding the issue. Also, between the obese genius, the playboy, black Rock with a cyberarm, and 'magic fingers' lugging a freaking guitar case along, I definitely get people expressing their worries about potential netorare.
The in-game explanation for this is the medic doing fertility drug trials on herself.
