I realize that some, if not all games are labor intensive, But when you start another project besides the one that you began, neither game should be abandoned or content sacrificed for the other. After a year of nothing most people will have to waste their time of starting the game all over just to remember what the F is going on with the game to even continue.

Normally I would agree with you. But things come up that causes the dev to refocus on other things They could have gotten writers block or any number of things like that. Or life could have gotten in the way. Sometimes stepping back allows them to get a better idea of what they were doing and get back into the groove.
