I lost my saves so I started over and am now at the Morthal city trying to get past the burned house investigation, the game freezes when I enter the burned house it automatically moves the character to between the 3 flumes of smoke and I cannot do anything else???

That is an annoying one.
The pathing will put you in that location, but it's likely that you accidentally moved one square too far before the Event kicked in... causing the event to get stuck since you can't move further.
Carefully move to the place where the event takes place, which is 2 tiles right of the soutmost flume of smoke. It should work fine after that
I've managed to finally fix it for the next update.... Stupid pathing
