Is it really abandoned?? I was on devs Discord and he posted some art work for his new character.. I hope its not abandoned.. but it seems to be going the same path like many good 2D games. First the update takes a long time, then onhold, then some promises... and then.. quietly gone. Hope not. Too many AI slop, we need more 2D ART games.

I still am of the mind (and hope) that this will get Episode 6 at some point. But hand-drawn art is a very long and complex process, so I already expected this to take a long time per episode. Personally, I still don't think this is actually abandoned. Real life can get in the way of developers working on VNs, even with tools like DeepAI or Daz3D. With something that's hand-drawn, obviously delays would get even longer.

I understand that, I supported a number of devs on Patreon. But I had to stop for financial reasons, although I still buy their games on Steam. You can see in my profile that I regularly return to some 2D art game threads, if you are interested in other good 2D games like this. Anyway I sometimes chatted with the devs and some of them were very passionate about their art especially the solo devs. I never talked with Worlaix himself but I'm sure he has the same love for his 2D art. I wish more players appreciate the smaller devs so they have the motivation to continue. Worlaix posted a nice scene he animates using Adobe Effects, I hope we get to see it on the next update.

What I can tell you is that the game is currently undergoing a restructure of the narrative to have events and choices make more sense, insert additional decisions/dilemmas, and to allow for future relationships and parts of the story to develop. This restructure is what is taking the up the majority of the dev's time at the moment and why things aren't as simple as "releasing the next episode".
I'm glad the dev is still working on this. I just rediscovered this game. Last time I played was a couple of updates ago, and taking into consideration so many people are so certain the dev is still working on it, I was going to go ahead and check out what was released since last time I played. If they're restructuring the existing game though, I'll wait for the next update. I'm a little saddened to know the dev doesn't seem to be interested in pursuing this full time. I think the thread is evidence that there are people willing to support quality, hand drawn art, but it would still probably be difficult to make a living and even more difficult to compete with a professional salary

That's fine; just understand you may be waiting quite a while. I'd recommend keeping this thread on your watchlist while you wait, if you're still interested.

It's not that Worlaix isn't interested in making this game his fulltime thing, it's that he's not in a place right now where he can reasonably make that a reality. As it stands, interest in the game is low (long absences by the developer certainly don't help) and the number of eyes on the game and people who know about it is small. Worlaix has talked about eventually doing a Steam release and I recall he even said - jokingly or otherwise - he'd prefer to live off scraps from the game than live in the 9-5 wage cage.

Either way, increased attention on the game can't come until the developer can commit more time to it, and we've already covered what's bottlenecking that.

It's a little more involved than that:
  • Placed On Hold, but after 6+ months, still no update
  • No communication or new version in 3+ months
  • Despite even regular communication, no game update in 18+ months
  • The developer explicitly says it's permanently suspended / abandoned
The second point is what applies specifically in the case of this VN. (FFR, it's item 3 at this page.)
We'd be getting to point 3 soon even if he were communicating.

And let's be honest with ourselves - even if he's intending to work on it, with 18 months between updates and the story barely being off the ground at this point, this game is never getting finished even if we get another update or two before the end of the decade .

My point was just to clarify that things getting marked as Abandoned is more involved than only no update. If your post really was only meant primarily to complain about the long wait times, you didn't need to quote me.

If you don't want to be quoted on a public forum, your perhaps shouldn't post.

My point is the game is effectively abandoned whether or not anyone wants to admit it, and the abandoned tag here is actually a pretty good marker of that. And we've almost reached a point where it'd get the tag regardless of whether or not the dev showed activity.

I can't think of a single game that got that tag and ended up being eventually completed in a non half-assed manner. Maybe we'll get another update, maybe we won't. But there is zero chance it actually reaches a conclusion.

Thanks for the info. I was just randomly wondering what had happened to that game, since I hadn't heard anything about it in a long time and it had kind of dropped off my radar.

I remember the dev had mentioned being really busy with real life stuff and could only work on it slowly in his free time. I'm a bit sad to hear that the game is now officially cancelled for good.

I really liked the story around the elves, and the whole idea of humans and elves trying to coexist, with all the tensions between the two communities. That part was interesting.

Still, I have to admit that the story didn’t progress much overall. The game started off with a pretty simple premise, but it seemed like the plot and stakes were gradually becoming more complex.

So, I’m not really surprised the project turned out to be dead on arrival… but still, it’s disappointing.

Edit :

In his last Discord post back in January, the dev mentioned he still plans to work on Elvensang, but only when his schedule allows, as he’s supposedly overwhelmed with work.

He didn’t give any clear timeline for the next update either, so at this point, it’s safe to say the game is probably dead. What’s more, this isn’t the first time he’s made vague promises like this, only to push updates further back, so it’s hard to feel confident or hopeful.

Personally, I think it’s best not to expect anything more from Elvensang at this stage.

Taking "a few months off", even if just 2, makes me wonder what exactly his current work is. But maybe those two months will be really productive, and maybe he's far enough along that he gets another chapter out. I guess I'll just wait and see.

I see where you are coming from and I kind of agree, but I don't think he will abandon it now, rather years later when he starts a family. Since it's a passion project and he isn't making it for the money it truly depends when his free time meant for this project dries up.

I doubt very highly the reason this hasn't continued into Episode 6 is because there hasn't been any sex with the MC's mother yet. You either haven't ready much on this thread in the past or you choose to ignore what's already been said, even recently. There are reasons, but they have nothing to do with sex with mommy.

You could’ve checked that yourself on Discord or elsewhere, but as things stand, there has been no activity since the message he posted back in January. No updates have appeared on any other platforms either, and Worlaix never followed up with the progress update he had promised.

I had already expressed doubts about his motivation to return to the game, along with concerns about his availability and the likelihood of any real progress after such a long time. Given all this, the outcome is not particularly surprising.

Is it disappointing ? Absolutely. I really enjoyed the game because it had an engaging story and showed a lot of potential. But since situations like this happen quite often, that is just part of how things go sometimes. At this point, the best option is to move on ...
