how many chapters this will take?
I don't know yet. I have the outline for the story until the end, but I haven't really divided it all into episodes. I like to have the freedom to put as many or few plot points into an episode as I feel like when writing the episode. This helps a lot with keeping everything at the right pace, not too rushed nor too drawn out.

I have an estimate in mind for how many episodes there will be, but that guess is bound to change anyways. So, the only thing I can guarantee for now is that there will be between 10 and 20 episodes in total.

Thank you very much for your awesome work with this. I think it is pretty great that you figured out a workflow that works good for you and I am looking forward a lot to all those episodes that are yet to come. I sincerely hope that you will not feel discouraged by pointless discussions even in years to come.

Cheers to you!

You could say that EI is a slice of life drama so it can be very versatile in terms of plot, so as the story progresses I wouldn't be surprised if more ideas come up along the way, and Ashe has the potential to be anything, which means she has a lot of things to experience ahead of her.

I write the whole episode before I start doing renders. So I have a number of dialog lines and I have the average of dialog lines per render in the game so far to calculate it. I also go through the script and adjust the estimates when there are scenes that I assume will deviate a lot from that average.

All that being said, my estimates have been off a lot of times, so it really isn't accurate at all.
the part 1 renders should be enough for an BIG update already.
why wait?

Yeah, 850+ renders -- I would be thrilled to get an update of any game that was even half that size. 1464 renders as of their most recent progress report would be like three or more updates for most games.
You'd think that a steady supply of releases would mean a steady supply of Patreon subs, but I'm no economist, I guess

Just my grain of salt with a lot of assumption, I'm guessing that the author prefer releasing the update as a whole instead of chunk to avoid having to make change retroactively should he discover he messed up/changed his mind in a previously released scene. It give him a better overall view of the whole thing at the end especially if the update happen in a single night.
Even if it's already scripted change can still be made. Personally I would find it annoying if the update was only 1 hour of in-game content, nothing would really get resolved until five or so update later it would be cliffhanger hell.

The same reason why most people like to watch a movie in one go, instead of watching the first half now, and the second half in three months. I like these episodes to be a somewhat contained piece with a satisfying little story arc and an ending that fits. Randomly cutting it in half will just feel unfinished. I'm sure some would disagree, but that's how I'd like to continue doing this.

It's also just a lot easier (for me) to write the whole thing, then do all renders, and then test and polish until everything fits, instead of dividing that into 2 or more partial episodes. Another thing is that there's always a sort of balance in an episode. Between the 3 routes, between story parts and sex parts, between funny and serious parts, and so on. Cutting it in half might mess with that as well.

And lastly, each release still comes with a lot of time that is needed for a bunch of stuff. Polish, building distribution files, uploading files, social media posts, and just generally a lot more distractions since I spend a lot of time reading feedback and interacting with the community after a release. So the second release would just be pushed back and you'd ultimately wait longer for the full episode to be out.

(And yes, more frequent updates would most likely be more profitable. But I'm just gonna pretend that avoiding negative rep for releasing unfinished episodes will make up for that in the long run :))
