I'm going to differ with you on this. First off, I mentioned in my post that I understand that this is a porn game, but the genre is called visual novels for a reason. Novels by definition are based on the writing, and that's what I'm there for. I want story telling and challenging choices that matter. Honestly, if I just wanted porn I'd go for the real thing, which I can pull up in 3 milliseconds pretty much anywhere on the net. Nobody needs to work hard to find fap material. In many instances it's also a game, and the gameplay is important. That's not the case with Eternum, really, but that is true with things like BaDIK or the NLT games, for instance, where gaming is an integral part. I like the gaming aspects too, but I also understand that Eternum is not predicated on gaming but rather on the NOVEL aspect, which again comes back to writing. For me at least I enjoy having the fantasy aspects and I also enjoy the sex as a reward for either playing the game well or making the right decisions. I value it less when it's just given to me for no reason at all, and that robs me of enjoyment of the game. At the same time, my incentive to try to gain these rewards is blunted if I have to wade through tedium and stupidity to get there. Before anyone jumps on my ass I'm not accusing Eternum of being that way but I would a game like Lust Theory, for example, which simply became so stupid as to be unplayable. I will, however, say that some of the dialogue in Ep. 5 is cringey. People value a good story, and the basic story of Eternum, if not exactly original, is still pretty entertaining. The tangents however, at least in Ep. 05, for me took away from all the awesomeness that was the first 4 chapters. I get that people like the extra lewd scenes, but the way we got there feels like a pie in the face to me, instead of the culmination of a cool story arc or as a reward for having done something well.I don't mind, actually. His previous game was relatively similar in this regard. Smoother integration and character development would take massive amounts of effort away from the main draw of the game, and as is, there's also a big element of "fun" in these games.
There's a distinction here - this game and Once in a Lifetime are adventure/sci-fi/mystery/horror PORN games. Most games on this website are romance porn games set in a university/slice of life/sitcom/fantasy setting.
The reason we love this is because its fresh, it actually doesn't go for relationships as much as it does world building and the relationships are kinda there, you also make your own - the characters are built up through the world and you, the person behind the PC attach importance to them. You don't try to relate to the character in the game thats attaching importance to them.
