The ability to penetrate in the others' mind and control it, is one of the basic thematic of the fiction based on the concept of the neural implant, of the demonic possession and of the psychic powers. So the question is: is Eternum compatible with those concepts?I just had a thought about her ability to read minds too. If Alex isn't really there and she is just a virtual construct, then that means that Calypso was taping into the implant in her brain. If Calypso is an AI, then she is able to access people's minds via their implants which is crazy. And if she isn't an AI and there is some kind of real realm jumping going on than that means that means that she is able to read people's minds through their astral projections, which is also crazy. Need to think on this more...
You already know the answer…
I think we could suppose there are two/three different kind of NPCs: the artificial ones, the professional (or human) ones and the supernatural ones; at least this is what I suppose. What happens to different entities when they are killed? And excommunicated?
Normal NPC - just respawned? Can they be excommunicated?
Player - level reset, permaban or actual death on excommunication.
Calypso - ??
Chop Chop - ??
Praetorian - ??
Praetorians can excommunicate, but are there other entities that can do that or can learn to do that?
The artificial NPCs are artificial intelligences, created to perform the more basic roles in the various setting; like a redneck in a medieval world, a prostitute, the bear killed by Nova…
The professional (or human) NPCs are actors hired to perform more complex roles; the Headmaster of Warthogs, the Praetorians and Chop Chop could be professional NPCs.
The supernatural NPCs are supernatural entities (vampires, werewolves, elfs, daemons…) "enslaved" by Ulysses to be part of the Eternum setting. Of course this kind of NPCs can exist only if Eternum is actually a techno-magic multiverse; otherwise they would be "only" highly advanced artificial NPCs.
Why I have written: "The supernatural NPCs are supernatural entities (vampires, werewolves, elfs, daemons…) "enslaved" by Ulysses…"? Due to the dreams in which a girl asks to Orion if he would help them, because I think it opens the door to two kind of scenarios (not incompatible with each other), in which the not human NPCs are highly advanced AI (so advanced to have gain the self-awareness) and/or supernatural beings enslaved by Ulysses. In fact what we know about Calypso is compatible with both the scenario: she can be an actual elf princess not completely subjugated to Ulysses will or an AI who don't know it is an AI due to some issues in its programming; the Praetorians said she wasn't ready to be used…
