It's a bit different to most games here, but Strangers on Paper has an impressive first chapter.

Depends on what you are looking for. While Eternum is my favorite game here, there are many great games you can play. Some are very different, others do certain aspects of the VN better and so on. Here are a few recs:
- You should definitely try Once In a Lifetime next - it is great. While Eternum is overall a better work given everything the dev has learnt, Once in a Lifetime is still an excellent harem game with similar style. It is a lot more funny than eternum and most importantly it is completed.
- Pale Carnations in my opinion has even better writing than eternum. However unlike eternum, it is a character driven drama and there is very little overarching plot. It focuses on more hardcore fetishes and has a lot more sex (it is set in a brothel) so depending on your tastes that can be either a positive or a negative. I prefer Eternum more because I prefer plot driven games over games that focus just on characters but this is a high quality work. If you like character driven drama and dont mind hardcore fetishes you will like this.
- Desert Stalker is a game with beautiful visuals, it has a decent plot (I did not like it as much as eternum's story though) and is a male power fantasy. If you like the harem aspect of Eternum you might like this one. It is however not as wholesome and heartwarming as Eternum since it tries to be a male power fantasy. I like the lewd content here more than what Eternum has so far.
- Superhuman is another great game I highly recommend. Not as lighthearted/wholesome as eternum but if you liked the interesting story/overarching plot, you will love superhuman. The overarching story and the worldbuilding is simply incredible and like eternum it is a modern day fantasy/supernatural game.
- Projekt Passion like Eternum is a light hearted comedy focused harem game. So if you liked Eternum's wholesome vibe and humor, you will like this one.

Do you need to be a patreon supporter to post in the eternum discord? It's either that or I've gotten blocked from posting messages, and I have no idea why that would be the case.

it became patron only after patrons started shit on it... make it make sense....
I think Eternum does the blend of comedy and drama much better than PP. Everyone in Eternum's harem is a well-adjusted individual. Alex has had probably the worst childhood out of the seven, and even she's turned out fine. PP gives me whiplash when it switches between hijinks and drama.
Apparently there were problems with bots and spam accounts so they ended up having to make it patron only. Or at least that was the reason a couple of months ago. It was added to filter out trolls, bots etc. I have not visited the discord server in a while but at the time they were still considering the next steps. Looks like it is still locked for non patrons.

At least if you're not a patron, you can still post on fan arts and memes which is really the only reason I visit the discord

The plot, humor, characters' personalities, music, cinematics are a few things that got hooked people into this VN (also the jump scare moments if you're into them, and of course the steamy moments which will continue to increase in future updates). You can also try the developer's previous project Once in a Lifetime if you wish to familiarize yourself better with his style (I say imo that's a must). At least, those are a few highlights from my part and perhaps others might add some things I've missed in my post. But overall give it a try if you're convinced enough later on.

The story is interesting, the mysteries are intriguing, the characters are lovely, the MC is a horndog but a charismatic one and when we talk about the creative process (backgrounds, animations, storytelling, transitions, etc.) the game is probably one of the best.
I usually skip honey select games for a more realistic ones, but this game just make me love every second I played, every girl I met and every update just make me love more and more the characters and the story.
Just play a little, if you get until they find Calypso (The third weapon of Atlas) and you are not in love of the game just skip it and play another one, but I'm pretty sure that won't be the case.

You can get people's opinions in the reviews section including the opinions of the few people who did not like the game as much.
If its not for you then that's fine. I like it because it has a lighthearted tone, an interesting plot and very likable characters. You will like this if you want a fun lighthearted harem game. If you are not a fan of harem games and dislike the tropes that come with it or if you want something with very deep choices/pathing, you might not enjoy this.
Give it a try if you have time. It has >660 reviews with a >4.9 avg rating out of 5 so it is clearly doing something right. If you dont like it then that's fine you can always move on to something else.

You have received quite a few responses. They all give good reasons for playing this game. What I'm wondering, and what would help posters here to better target their responses, is WHY Eternum doesn't look like it's for you.
Not looking to bash or criticize whatever you respond. It just would help us understand your mindset towards this game.

That's a tough answer. What is your critic; game, characters, plot or renders? Did you play it yourself? And I mean play, not first 20 minutes... When a game has after 663 votes a review score of 4.9/5 it must be good. You have to know that here come all kinds of people without any filters, some like it, some not, but after all that game has highest score. It's tough to say something more without spoilers. Try to play it it with open mind, we are all different; there is a tiny chance that you will not like it.
Conclusion: Try it; if you like it, you're welcome here, if you don't like it, search for other game(s), there are thousands of them on this site.

It reminds me of the good old days when internet forums were still open to discussion partners and people tried to entertain each other with intelligent conversations and respect. You hardly see that anymore. Especially in a forum like this one. It's a pity that you had to come up with an apologetic disclaimer for that, because now you automatically think of sarcasm when someone acts like that. Please excuse my gibberish, but I wanted to get rid of that. I've noticed it more than once since I first noticed you here in the forum. It really depends on what you're looking for. If you just want fap material or the most extreme fetishes or whatever, then Eternum probably isn't for you.
If you look for a slow burning, very well written story with relatable characters and great art, it very much can be for you.
