There is no reason for an average player to suspect that the NPCs are actual sentient beings. And if you do suspect that to be the case, killing or assualting an NPC would be just as bad as doing it to another human in the real world (maybe worse to kill someone in the real world, have a fuzzy memory about NPCs being respawned after being killed ingame, but still bad).What the fuck is wrong with you? Have you ever heard of the Turing Test?
A slippery slope is a logical fallacy. Allowing people to fantasise about immoral actions (like most games on this site) won't automatically lead to people acting those fantasies out in real life. Also, regardless of how much you might want to control peoples thoughts and emotions, you can't, which means it's a fools errand anyway.And even if it's "just code", it's an unforgivable slippery slope inevitably leads to children getting horrifically abused.
