Maybe they think that the number of different paths that it's possible to take make it more of a game than a visual novel?
Are there? I'm playing it for the first time right now and while the art is pretty good and the writing is great, it doesn't seem to have a lot of actual choices. Most of the time there are like an obvious good choice and an obvious bad one?! I guess you can deliberately drop some of the paths if you want, but why would you do that?
