I would argue that Orion's main claim to fame, so to speak, is that he is the lynchpin of the group. If he had not started playing Eternum only Dalia and Annie would maybe play occasionally together. Luna & Nova (as Delilah Warren (with Dione) would be solo players and Penny & Nancy would not be in the game at all. Not to mention Calypso would still be stuck in a box.

Orion brought all of them together to make a strong "TEAM". He does not need to tell the girls to stand back and let me be Mr. Macho and save the day.

As far as Nancy goes, part of her success was luck and timing. The original Emperor was a dick, and Nancy has charisma in spades. She leads like a true leader, so people follow, and the legends grow.

Annie is far from useless, as she said, they kept going to ""Magic Blocked" servers, so that takes her out of the game on those servers but ON magic servers she is at the top of her game if not the whole game with Solar Cataclysm.

Penny through conversations has mentioned her growth in healing spells. True, we have not yet seen what that growth is but considering the group (and the mysterious growth people in Kredon seem to be experiencing) she is probably going to be mastering some nice abilities.

Alex, well... she is or can take on the form of a fucking Dragon, come on.

Luna has amazing summons that are beyond compare and spells to back that up.

Nova has Dione which can become any ranged weapon she can imagine.

So WHY does Orion need to go all Alpha, ever? A good boss knows when to use his/her people and when to step in. I would argue that he is understands his limitations and abilities, and while he gets cocky at times the girls help to keep him grounded. This does not make him useless or a failure.

Anyhow, ramble off...

The short of it is, it's a fantasy "GAME". There is not one game on here that 100% abides by realistic standards so not sure why people's panties get in a bunch by the slightest liberties taken by dev's to enhance the story. Just accept the Lore and the possibility that it's all in an alternate reality and move on. ;)
MC is a loser, he's just known nancy and them since he was a kid so they drag him along. just like real life has the loser in the group that everybody knows and brings along cause if they dont he'll never go anywhere[and then they'll feel sorry for him]. i guess that could make him the "lynch pin". we all know the only girl thats gonna fuck him are the 1-3's on the 1-10 ranking scale and he's not rich enough to get himself a 7+ tiktok whore.

Also, Am I the only one who think Orion should keep using the implant to get in and out of Eternum as much as possible. It gives him a huge advantage that he has it and can also go back and forth at will. His latest (multiple) near death experiences, I think, are signs that he should use it at least when possible. He could even die while using the implant and suit, and then get right back in with his powers. Just some thoughts.
I thought that the big advantage of not using the implant might be that it would prevent the bad guys from tracking his movements from one server to another. But Thanatos seems somehow to have found him easily enough. One big advantage of shifting under his own power, though, is that if he gets into a desperate situation it should be possible to transfer out of it even if not near an exit portal. I'm guessing that if he shifts into Eternum using his implant, he won't be able to shift out of it back to Kredon using his own power, though IIRC that hasn't been put to the test yet. (But my memory is dreadful these days.)

I dont think so?

Considering everything Thanatos took really long to find Orion and only found him in the end when Orion was at the Inn which was Calypso's "home"since she was Orions weapon.

He could very well just been aware of Calypso's whereabouts and prepared a trap/waited for Orion there.

Good point which hadn't occurred to me. He could well have done that. Though it does raise the question of how he was able to locate Calypso, as I assume she doesn't have a neural implant.

The biggest issue is if he dies inside Eternum by self-porting in, he loses everything. Using the implant, he loses his shit but not his life.

I mean Calypso is VERY obvious and unusual, even without any big tracking tools she could have been found by someone whos explicitly searching for her and has connections.

Its a Inn and not some secret bunker but they may even have tools to track her

We don't actually know that. Since it hasn't come up. Not sure I want to conduct the experiment mind you. :)
I think Orion can die in Eternum, Idriel stated something along the lines that she cant save him as he died on earth (which implies she could have rescued him if he would have been in Eternum imo). Maybe she was just talking about if he had used the implant but it didnt sounded like it (i dont think Idriel puts much weight on the implant in all of this).

But what would have happened to Nova or Dalia dying?

Aren't there some branching paths as for example the gladiator fight or the space station arc where Orion can die but the game does not switch to an bad end?

I think Orion dying as an astral projection (going in via the chip) is pretty much confirmed for him to be not a reason to die for real, where as dying while he "transmigrated" into Eternum would probably end in him dying for real.

Super funny that the author addressed how useless Annie as been in the past 7 chapters and decided to have a little villain speech and NUKE everything. (it still doenst make up for the fact that in the past 7 chapters the highest level character was in fact useless, but at least it means Caribdis is self aware)

What game are you playing lmao. MC is flirting with line of being too Chad, not a loser.

Nancy, the queen waifu, won’t settle for the MC you made up in your noggin.

Let's be fair here, if there was MMO video game realism where levels mattered, the game would have involved Orion grinding boars for a long, long time and then when he gets a power-up he'd be a filthy cheater. And Penelope would just kinda get one-shot at the start of everything. Plus it'd be super unrealistic that they're involved in the plot at all despite not grinding the thing 24/7.

My headcannon is it's like a shooter where levels just give you a perk here and there, while weapons are key and your basic weapon is good enough to kill stuff while big weapons are an edge for experienced players to wield properly (you'll get one shot by a shotgun to the face either way, but you can get a shotgun with a bit more range or capacity). And Orion just gets less lag than everyone else. Don't even remember if it was ever explained, it's just what I automatically think of.

I think that was the explanation. Levels aren't that important and don't give stat changes

They can affect what magic you can wield tho (spells are basically level-gated). Pretty bloody important I think if you're gunning for a magic-oriented playstyle.
