You're making Caly sad lol...

View attachment 5285905 View attachment 5285906

She's Caly's ancestor, the elven queen in her storybook-esque tale who got chained by the evil king before she was saved by the Eldari who's using the Gems of Doom (though jury's still out if that bit of info is legit or just Caly projecting Orion onto the Eldari). Given the parallels she has to Idriel (both being chained and used by men of power), I'm guessing they're either one and the same or it's a Wheel of Time scenario where she used to be Anima but got reincarnated and is now suffering the same fate as before. Regardless, it's something that we'll probably find out in 0.9 now that Orion is in Hyril'ar.
I think Caly will survive. If Orion didn´t know and she´s still on board with him...

Thanks for the answer, and yes, I now remember that story, it was actually a pretty cute moment in the story and a nice way to introduce some lore into the Gems of Doom.

Why does Caribdis's state that Eternum is made with Blender? Is he not allowed to say it's made with Honey Select 2?
From Caribdis' Discord FAQ
Q: What programs are used to create these games? A: Once in a Lifetime and Eternum are both coded using Ren'py, a game engine which facilitates the creation of visual novels. Python is the base programming language that Ren'py runs on. The character models, assets, and maps that you see in Once in a Lifetime are created using Honey Select, an eroge character creator. On the other hand, the character models, assets, and maps that you see in Eternum are created using Honey Select 2, the graphically and technically superior sequel to Honey Select. Some assets and maps may also be ported over into the game from other programs such as Unity, Daz, and others.

My guess is that the animator from episode 6 - present uses blender by exporting assets through unity. They do look a little too good to be using the timeline mod. The flesh physics (legs in particular, as you do have them for tits and ass if you use HS2PE, even if it is a collossal pain in the ass and slow as hell) in scenes are what have me think that may be the case.

From what little I understand from his technobabble tho he seems to be doing it all on HS2, but again that's just my read on the matter.

You're right, he wouldn't be talking about pistons if he was using blender, nor would he need to animate solid fluid items.

He's being paid, and it doesn't infringe on Caribdis' dev time so I guess it's good to go the extra mile, but absolutely fuck that if you're a solo dev. I can't even begin to describe how boring that would be to do by hand.

Really overrated that it is suspicious in my opinion. At least as a porn VN it falls flat on its face solely by being one of those games where the LIs get maybe a full sex scene by the end of the game before calling it quits, maybe ~ 1 or 2~ more scenes if the LI has more screen time than the rest of the cast.

The game also also follows the cardinal sin of "stairway to heaven" porn progression, which most new VNs got rid off because it is simply not realistic depiction of passion and sex and kinda of stupid. Stair to heaven progression is when you progress through fellatilo and sexual acts like it is leveling . Makeout-->handjob--->thighjob--->blowjob--> etc etc.

Its not all bad. The girls are cute and the plot is entertaining, but as a porn VN, from a eroticism standpoint, it fails hard.
I agree that the game is both really good yet it is also somehow overrated when people act like it's the greatest thing ever. It's a 10/10 relative to other AVNs on here, but it's like a 7 or 8/10 overall if were talking it a a piece of media as a whole.

The writing when you really get down to it is pretty damn average, BUT the presentation of it is Eternum's key to success. Many devs slack on the "little" things, (esp audio) so even if their writing is better it won't shine through. Whereas Eternum basically takes a typical story with typical characters and dolls it up to make it look way prettier, and honestly it works. Critically looking at the writing does make you realize it's has many trite story beats and characters though. Think of those typical shonen anime with really good acting, art, and animation that end up being a better experience than some that may have a better story.

That said this game is like the Toby Fox of F95 bro, you are NOT gonna win an argument where you speak remotely negatively about it on here LOL

What would be the reason to go into a thread dedicated to one of the top games on the site, that houses people who enjoy it and then speaking about them all as if they haven't heard that before? Don't you think in 2200+ pages, people have had negative opinions and ironed out good things and bad things about the game?

Further, how are you saying the writing is "damn average?" There's games with bad Engrish, bad display, and lackluster compulsion while Eternum is well known for its comedy, music that fit the mood (changed after some complaints, but I digress) and feels compelling to the point that our resident conspiracy theorist can go ham on speculation while giving us engagement.

I don't know what story beats are "trite" by your standards, but different shonen anime have different things coming through with it. One Piece is not Naruto is not Bleach, etc. So I fail to see what "typical shonen anime" this one's following. Even certain Harem comedy has different things going on like Ranma 1/2 or 5-toubun no Hanayome so I find it a bit silly to say someone is gonna understand this one if they read "typical shonen anime". Just because I read HxH doesn't mean I'll understand this one. Enjoyment is another thing entirely.

And sure, it gets criticism and the story has its drawbacks which fans do acknowledge but it's weird to claim that's based on following a formula no one knows and saying it's average based on superficial reasons.

ok, I'm going to ask something that may be a spoiler, but I'm interested.
Before the casino heist MC gets given a letter, I didn't open it (though I did peek and then rolled it back).
Is that letter for something else in the game or did I miss something?

Letter hasn't been brought up yet, but Cari said on Discord that opening the letter early is a pretty bad idea so don't.

So I fail to see what "typical shonen anime" this one's following.
SAO. He's talking about SAO.

Which is ironic considering that Cari dislikes the thing. Prolly because the generic MC's abilities doesn't have any underlying explanation other than "haha I am l33t haxx0r beta gamer, fear me." Or that it introduces a lot of harem elements to the story but doesn't really fully commit to the whole thing (like, a whole posse of girls who have obvious feelings for the MC and continue to stick to him despite him being loyal to one girl? And him not doing anything about it? Really?).

Compare that to Orion who, despite seemingly following the same plot beats, actually seems to have a lot more meat in his power's backstory (which we'll likely tackle sometime in the story at some point). Also he commits to his harem instead of being wishy-washy about it (or at least, you as the player have the freedom to make him commit to it).

Further, how are you saying the writing is "damn average?" Some people consider any work that's trope-heavy to be average writing and prefer more unique experiences. Which is fair coz Eternum doesn't do anything new on the surface level. However, while it fails at creating a unique story in its own right, it makes up for it by just being a fun experience to read (which I argue is something that makes it stand out from a lot of AVNs, most of which are themed on slice-of-life and drama stuff).
