Technology has its place and just because I don't like AI doesn't mean I'm a luddite like you're implying. AI has its place and if I had the choice to not experience or have it in something, I'm taking the opportunity. Especially if its on an otherwise decent piece of art. My issue is the fact that AI is considered comparable to Art and that it uses the hardwork or effort of actual people and if that isn't enough, AI is terrible for the environment too.

My issue is the fact that AI is considered comparable to Art and that it uses the hardwork or effort of actual people and if that isn't enough, AI is terrible for the environment too.

It's not like this is taking away work from actual people since few actual composers are okay with their music being used in an adult game. That's why he's in this mess to begin with. So what else can Caribdis do? He could forgo adding music altogether but I personally think that would be a bad decision, since well chosen tracks add a lot to a scenes atmosphere. I also wouldn't expect him to master music composition and create his own tracks from scratch. As long as the music doesn't sound awful and fits the scenes I'm fine with it.

Given how well the music choices previously fit the scenes in this game, it seems like Caribdis has a good sense for that. So I'm cautiously optimistic it'll turn out okay at worst, with potential to even turn out good. I guess we'll find out eventually.

Everything I've heard seen so far is that that Caribdis might lean into it. Like I said, I get it. Still, for now. I'd like the option to remove the AI stuff if I can. Given it's 8.5 and only two piece of music are AI I think? I'd be able to just probably remove/delete the file from the music folder. Probably.

Commissioning was the first thought that came to mind but I get that that's probably not as feasible.

Yeah, I shudder to think at what it would cost to commission an original soundtrack for this game. Especially given any professional before taking the commission would look up the project, see what happened and know that Caribdis would have few alternatives. They would have a lot of bargaining power to ask for a damn fortune to do it. I know I would in their shoes.

Ah i misunderstood some stuff, 8.6 is when most of the music got removed, although apparently some 8.0 had some AI music slop in it? Damn. Guess i shouldnt look for a copy of 8.6.

I wouldn't call it "slop", the background tracks are basically indistinguishable from regular ones and the proper songs (like ones used for sex scenes) are also decent, if a bit bland compared to their originals. I mean hell, I've even seen some people prefer the AI ones. Ideally, Cari wouldn't need to use AI, but at this point, it's gotten good enough to be passable. Also, AI music is obviously better than no music and I can't see why you would ever prefer to play the game in silence (besides some bogus ethical/environmental reasons).

Playing with no volume when audio is a big part of the experience is pretty strange, to say the least, but if that's the reason you wouldn't notice the sections with AI music being silent, then that's because of your volume preferences, not because the music itself is bad. Also, you're twisting my words (perhaps not intentionally, but still). I said "decent, if a bit bland", which in your post turned into "bland, soulless and lacking any creativity or effort". The songs are a bit bland, yes, but that's only compared to the originals and only in the context of Eternum's soundtrack, which is to say - they're still good by AVN standards. That's because they were made with the vibes of the original songs in mind and approved by Cari (who, as is obvious, is great at picking songs that fit scenes really well). Also, how does the fact that generic background music is almost indistinguishable make it worse? That just means the jump from regular music to AI music is less jarring. As for the other stuff, like Cari being able to half-ass stuff with AI, well... no? Not really, anyway. AI is eons away from being able to generate the quality of renders, dialogue, plot, characters or animations that are in Eternum. Any game that has gone down such a road has been met with overwhelming hate and rightfully so. Getting back on track though, while AI songs are inferior to regular ones, it seems to me you're hating on them solely because they're AI, not because they genuinely suck.

After what happened back in February (or early March, dunno), it's completely understandable why some tracks (or even the majority of them) will be AI. It also saves lots of time, since looking for the just right track for a scene isn't fast at all.

I personally have no problems if background music become 100% AI and actual music is reserved for more dramatic or sexier moments.

game still fine tho, but I don't think the story is better than others games with 100/200 votes. I guess it received that many votes because of the visuals. Some "missions" in ethernum are so fucking boring, like one of the firsts in the spooky/haunted server, that was one of the most boring shits i've ever seen.

Replayed the first ep as I recreate my old saves to catch up. I forgot how great that entire sequence with MC's first time on Ion was. Visuals are great. Forgot how funny the game was, too. The whole cafe competition was fun. The 40 year old not-mafia students crack me up.

Well yes, but if royalty free music sites are starting to become more hostile to AVN devs then searching for the right track is going to be a lot more difficult in the future.

Plus Cari mentioned on Discord that he wants to commission songs sparingly, as artists don't always get the mood that he wants for the scene and that back and forth until they get it right takes time (and could cause delays in the future if, say, he has the game ready but the songs have yet to be finished). Then there's also the fact that not a lot of artists would want to associate their work with a porn game, so the pool becomes smaller. /shrugs

It is genuine hell for any creator producing sexual content.

All the quality stock providers have "no pornography" in their licensing agreements - and I sort of don't want to name the second-rate ones I'm using for fear of someone being a twat and making them more aware of things being used for AVNs.

AI is really the only feasible alternative. They (the providers) are cutting their nose off to spite their face, they could make money, but instead choose to uphold weird morality, where sex is bad, but you can be as violent in your content as you damn please.

its a damn shame all this "music" affair and from what i read, dev doesn't have so many option, its one of the rare game where the soundtracks is really good, lets hope he manages to keep that quality
