I don't play Eternum for the challenge of clicking the right narrative choices or solving the puzzles. It's not a game, it's an AVN. Picking the wrong choice like opening the envelope or accepting the Founder's gift, or not commenting on the pen, and missing out on content is not something I want to do. I just want to see all the content from all the girls I can.
I was thinking about this thread earlier during my yearly replay. I'm still early on, and as each girl asked me to do something on the first Saturday and the "No" option warned me that it closed their path, if I didn't have that warning there I would have assumed the game was going to punish me for trying to spread myself too thin. My initial instinct would be that the game was trying to force me to pick different activities and miss out on others. In hindsight, I really appreciate that Carib isn't that kind of dev.

I mean, that Saturday is packed though. Workout with Dalia, Yoga with Nancy, study with Alex and photoshoot with Penny.

Saying no to half of those will permanently close their paths with no real warning without a guide of some sort. And sure, there's the official guide, but having to get out of my game and pull that up at every single choice really breaks immersion for me.

I love the sandbox elements. What I hate is the tendency for choices that matter but isn't clear why. As well as gating content behind content that doesn't seem to be relevant to that.

Of course there's puzzle VNs where it's different, but as far as VNs where it's a singular story I think A Man For All got the element of choices in AVN 100% right. It feels like you play your way through it, but you can't miss anything unless you explicitly want to. It just changes the flavour of specific scenes.

I'm pretty sure it's the influence from older Japanese VNs on Eternum you can thank for that. From what I understand, it's pretty common for seemingly trivial and unrelated choices to have major consequences later. I guess the idea is to extend playtime since people needed either multiple playthroughs or a walkthrough to get the perfect endings.

Personally, I don't have the patience for that, so I use the walkthrough.

True, if at least those decisions were actually about picking up girls... but it's just random sheet with hidden meanings.

Getting flashbacks to those real oldschool Japanese VNs, like Three Sisters Story :HideThePain:

Looks like Cari is still very hard at work finishing the update in time.
The Progress Report was supposed to come out a few days after the 5th, then Thursday, Friday, the weekend and now that passed too.
He said release dates early next week, which I guess would be Tuesday now and the Progress Report tomorrow. Not sure if he would just merge the two at this point?
Now I would guess release on the 26th or no later than the 28th.

Exactly my point,We come here to turn off our brains and turn on our dicks not the other way around by solving puzzles and doing math.Let us fap peacefully,My sincere request to all the devs
I seriously do not know why devs don't just automatically include an in-built walkthrough guide and unlock all gallery scenes options in the menu, that anyone can turn on and off at their whim. There is zero reason not to, and it would be very helpful for those us.

tbh,do people even need the progress report itself :HideThePain: Seems like Cari takes it seriously and want to write something really important there.
But,only the release dates would be enough:unsure:
He mentioned that the next update will be "short". It's possible that he want to announce something related to that. Specifically how once "all girls had their individual scenes" he will "tone down on the lewd" because "the story need to wrap up and the girl's individual arcs are mostly done" plus "making all/most remaining scenes be threesome and foursome can increase their complexity in terms of animations".

He kind of already did that. The heartbeat sound means you picked an option she likes, sometimes there's more than 1 option she likes, sometimes there's only 1. If no heartbeat, click back, pick again, repeat til heartbeat.

Personally I think the need for a walkthrough in a game means poor design choices. There should be enough context in the choices to be able to make an informed decision OR there should be a built in ability to fix mistakes without requiring a reload or any kind of note keeping. Whether that's repeatable scenes or whatever doesn't really matter.

Consulting a walkthrough is very immersion breaking. I want to be able to just play the game, occasionally make a mistake, recover from that mistake without a reload and achieve the goal I'm after. Most of the choices in this game are obvious but sometimes you are rewarded for pushing your luck while other times you are punished for it. So there are some exceptions.

None of the choices in this game are very complicated and there are very few choices that have a consequence you don't find out about until significantly later. The main exception I can think of is the first gift you can buy from Chop Chop. Doesn't break anything if you pick the wrong one, but there is a clearly optimal choice that you don't see the consequence for until much later. Most of the choices have a consequence that happens either immediately, or soon enough that you can just click the back button a few times and fix it if you don't like the result.

As for gallery unlocks, I would personally find it annoying if the gallery was fully unlocked by default. I want to unlock the gallery by actually achieving the scenes that the gallery shows.
