Actually after replaying it I don't think MC can be far enough ahead to win without the final game if you don't win the server naming competition. I was mistaken about that. But Dahlia can. She'll win the server naming competition guaranteed unless you really go out of your way to win it yourself. Aside from that all it requires is picking Booty Royale and X Marks the Spot/My lips and she wins. No coin flip. No sauna scene.

I just wanted to see what happened if Dahlia completely dominated the game. Those are not my usual picks. But since the sauna scene is my current favorite in the whole game I figured the hot tub game might allow variations. Doesn't seem to. Either you get the scene or you don't. Yes, I also thought there would be more choices, but there aren't really any. The only way Orion can dominate Dalia is by winning in server knowledge, and the only way Dalia can dominate Orion is by him destroying his relationship with sisters. It seems to me that Caribdis first planned the lore of this sex scene and then added the mechanics to it. The hot tub game excites Alex, who convinces Dalia to invite Orion over for a fuck.

I didn't have a problem with the card game. I won the round on server knowledge, and I did the coin toss in Dalia's favor. I was ahead pretty much the entire game until then. I got the sauna scene.

The weirdest thing about this game is that even though I date almost all but one of the LIs, the cheat menu still shows me that I'm not on my route to the harem. This can be manually turned on through the cheat menu, but it's still weird. That's why I think you shouldn't worry too much about dating more than one person in this game.

This is because the harem route is lost if you're not on every girl's path. For simplicity's sake, I imagine, so Cari doesn't have to write a billion variants of the epilogue depending on which combination of girls everybody was dating. You either get one or get them all.

Eternum isn't like other Western AVNs where choices lead to branching paths or outcomes. Rather, it plays more like a traditional Japanese eroge where there is one "correct" choice while the rest of the bad choices lead to failed paths and therefore cut content. As such, game is designed in a way that a harem path is the optimal/true path given that you maximize seeing all of the content if you're on that route as opposed to being in a single girl's path where you skip most of the content not related to the girl in question (and therefore making the experience a lot shorter and dare I say incomplete).

And, moreover, narratively speaking it's about the journey just as much as the destination. While all choices technically lead you down the same story path, the majority of the game is about the actual route you take to get there. You can play the game like a monk and do absolutely nothing to engage with the girls and you'll still, for the most part, hit all the same story beats, but you'll miss an absurd amount of content and have a very different overall experience.

Yes, you're right. Most of the game's choices have a "Right/Wrong" structure. These choices, in turn, influence how much character points you earn, preventing you from straying from the harem path and unlocking sex scenes. The plot is linear in any case. If the plot were structured like a tree, with each choice having a long-term impact rather than an immediate one, then developing each game with these paths in mind would take a year and a half or even two years, not six to eight months. And the current version of the game wouldn't be 0.9, but 0.4 at best. Also, some choices could have a dramatic impact on the plot, for example (SPOILER):

In that case, the plot becomes not a narrative tale, but a bunch of meaningless branching plots. There are hundreds of such examples, perhaps even more. The best graphics in visual novels, the best animations, literally couldn't exist alongside a branching plot; development on such a scale, which, with a development team that could be counted on the fingers of one hand, would take so long that playing such a game would be uninteresting.

Gentlemen, the few ladies and the virgins out there, I seek an audience with you all...visual novels are a form of media that compels us to crave more of it in ways few other forms of media do... this is because of the freedom and power granted to us in such games in the form of choice.


What is this choice I'm talking about? Why does it matter? Why am I posting this on a gooner thread? Why do I support recognition for all with three inches or less? All very valid questions which I shall answer.

I've always said authors are some of the scariest humans out there, since those are the kind of people capable enough of forming various personalities, relationships, systems and worlds to work in a coherent manner, like Eternum for example.

Sure its not THE BEST story out there but from an AVN's standpoint, it shines as a pinnacle of storytelling, a story which you can shape to be whatever you will it to be, this, is the choice I speak of, to take part in the making of a future as your own main character to make a future for you.

Now this brings me to why this is important, it may seem dumb to say this in an adult thread, again, and it may get buried and forgotten but for whoever sees this, why not try out the shit you see here in real life(I mean the positives).

Be cautious of the words you speak as they forge your relations, unlike normal games, AVN's usually focus heavily on desicions, with numerous branching paths, yes, its hard to find peak like this one but they exist, one for everyone's situation, a way to help even if a little to figure out how to solve your own issues.

Now I wanna say that these are the ramblings of a random gooner on a gooner thread and real world problems have soo many complexities and you can ignore it for all I care.
