They are Holding a Public crowdfunding (patreon) project.
It's their responsibility to report the state of the development (in progress / in hiatus / abandoned/ etc.),
Not Simply disappear after years of deliberately lying about the progress.
You don't need to announce your RL issues, but you need to state when there's a change for your project.
Given it happens way too often to crowdfunding projects, since there's no regulations to hold them accountable, But that doesn't make it OK to do so.
If that were the case we would have gotten at least a couple of updates.

I just rewatched breaking bad. You guys remember when walter jr made a website with paypal and saul started using the donations as a way to launder walt's meth money? Anyway, that scene made me think of this game for some reason

As far as what I've seen they have retreated from this site as well as Patreon and occasionally post memes on their Discord.

I check this game from time to time because i like his writing and arts so much. I hope thjs AVN continue.
There's some great characters in it and the art is awesome. It manages to be sexy and fun and have its own style without falling into that uncanny valley that a lot of 3D does too.
