You may also need to delete the Variables.rpyc It's a compiled cached version and I've had an issue before here RenPy isn't reading the new .rpy file.

Nope I mean the Variable file. After deleting the one file and starting a new save it started working.

Doesn't work

Yes, it works, I use it in this game and in all other Renpy games. It doesn't work for you because you are using the Playstore version. You need to download the Patreon version along with the Renpy plugin. It works perfectly for me.
