That's totally within your rights. Can't blame you for wanting to make some money.
That said, personally I tend to support artists on Patreon or Subscribestar when I have a really great experience with their game and want to show my support. It's less about needing to give them money for the product and more that I feel they've earned my money and support. If you start your game off with blocked off content it doesn't inspire me to support your development.
There are others that probably think the same as me. Make a great product and people will donate. Try to wrestle them into submission and they'll probably just go play a different game.

My patreon was making ~£100 before I started doing this. It jumped 400% on the very day I implemented patreon exclusive content in my other game. You don't think I analyze this sort of stuff? Most would play this and forget it, and I'd be wasting my time. At least now I get some willing to pay.
