To do that.... just click on her in the morning and you will see a scene where you grab the key.
Then wait until night and walk in

Unfortunately (because of the new note book function on the MC's computer) you HAVE to start anew - using old save files will cause the game to terminate with an error message.
However since we're early in the game starting from scratch doesn't take long
