That's exactly my mentality and I rarely purchase 'actual' games myself if they have no mulitplayer feature because they cost way more in my country due to the difference in income & currency ($60 here is like 10-15% of the minimum wage). If I do however, they're games I've loved after a playthrough and want to support the devs as much as I can, the same applies for Patreon. Let's not forget that these guys have already gotten way more than the game's price, $25, from plenty of patreons.
