It's not even the illusion graphics, you can totally use illusion models as a base and do proper custom animations on them. It's just that 99% of devs couldn't be arsed when doing nothing gets the job done as coomers will throw money at them.

After Pale Carnations it's really hard to find excuses for bad graphics. You can do absolute marvels with Honey Select if you put enough effort into it. Some devs do not even bother to do proper anti-aliasing or render at least in fucking 1080p.

you do understand that anti-aliasing and resolution do not change the beauty of the picture, but only change the numbers? that's why the 2007 crisis looks 10 times better than 99% of modern shitty games, because the beauty of the models and drawing is replaced by idiotic "rays" "particles" "8k resolution"
