I can decide whether to go to the basement or not, but he says that the first time I went to the basement, I ran away.

So I replayed episode 3, but he still says I ran away, even though that's not true.

And that kind of bothers me if it's a bug, but if it's like that with you all, then I'd just keep playing.

You are the first person to post about it in this thread. No one before you complained about this..I can assume that it is not a bug...perhaps you just did not do (when passing the episode again) a clean installation of the game and did not delete the past saves and persistence file, starting to play from your old save and the game somehow pulled the data from this file into your new playthrough. But that's just my guess.

Dm has updated his expected endings count with a message to Patreon only this morning. This is the relevant quote;
" Episode 4 is the final episode!! Several storylines intertwine with each other, leading to one possible ending. This grand saga will culminate in 13 endings, some of which will be revealed in upcoming updates! The quality of the content we produce continues to grow, and we hope you'll be satisfied with what we've got in store for you!"

So we have a few more possibilities to speculate about.

I just noticed. That's great news! And of course, it's the right decision...The originally planned 8 endings are too few for such a massive game. I always thought there should be a lot more of them.

for Mel it would be hard as she`s almost 100% under willpower of Vi. She`s branded by V, she`s doing 100% of her words.
As we have limited counts of endings - and Monica is main hero = Mel is out of it (only revenge route can conclude it). Monica could have good ending...Mel not. She lost in the moment he agreed to go in Dick`s office. Sad or not - from who`s place its seen.

And Mels behavior`s already outer blackmail...Tattoo part 2 will show us smth.

But now we'll have 13 endings instead of eight. So Mel still has a chance for a positive outcome. Although I don't really see how she can break free of Vicky's hold on her. Man, Melanie's a rich woman...All she has to do is hire a couple of muscle-bound thugs and Vicki will be found in a dumpster.

Melanie has a lot of opportunities to get rid of Victoria, for example, to secretly ask the lawyer again, like by sending a message, to put her behind the bars (and to take care of her so that she never gets out). And that fat guy will do anything for Melanie. Not to mention, that Melanie can just phisically get rid of Victoria, simply kill, either herself (and ask Dick to get her out of trouble after that) or by paying someone. Melanie is just into submission. That's it. No more, no less. Everyone enjoys different things and nothing wrong with that.

In episode 3, when I'm trying to convince Phillip to invest, he says he doesn't like that Monica ran away when he showed her the basement, but Monica didn't run away and now he's asking me to spend a week in his basement.

I thought it was a bug in my save file so I replayed episode 3, but now he's back to saying I ran away even though I didn't.

You are not the only one. This happens in my game as well. No matter what, Phillip accuses Monica of running away after he rescues her from the VIP. Like you, at first I thought my save had an issue but I have since re-run through ep 3 and it happens every time. As you say you can still choose to either make a deal with Phillip or agree to spend a week in his basement. I've never brought it up before because at the moment it bothers me but you can continue the game either way and so it becomes a bit of out of sight out of mind.

Edit: Actually I haven't tried a new save through the updated ep3 so it might be fixed or not?

Well I guess I'm an idiot as well then. There is no evidence at all that Melanie enjoys Vics company. Come on, just because you want it to be doesn't make it be. But you know, anything is possible if DM writes it.

All of these suggestions are non-options for Melanie.

As far as turning Dick against Victoria, she could have done that before Victoria got the leverage on her, but not anymore. For one thing, there's no way of getting Victoria sent to prison which would keep her from spilling what she knows to Marcus, and then it doesn't matter what happens to Victoria, Melanie is still going back to the farm. So she can't chance it. For another thing, Dick would no longer choose Melanie over Victoria. Just like he would no longer choose Monica over Victoria. At one point, he would have chosen either Melanie or Monica over Victoria, but both Melanie and Monica have lost a lot of their mystique for him.

And as for Melanie actually killing Victoria herself, how does that make sense? Melanie is a manipulator. She gets people to act for her. She doesn't take action herself (apart from the action of manipulating people). She knows how to play people to get her way. She doesn't know how to kill someone without getting herself arrested and convicted. And who is she going to get to kill Victoria? Alex? He gets what he wants if he sides with Victoria. Dick? He's not dumb enough to commit a murder, and, as already pointed out, he would currently choose Victoria over Melanie.

Melanie is just into submission. That's it. No more, no less. Everyone enjoys different things and nothing wrong with that.

It's true that everyone enjoys different things, and that's fine. It's not true that Melanie is into being abused by Victoria.

Maybe it's just a typo in the dialogs and it's not worth starting from scratch, but remember that if you want to start clean, it's not enough to delete the saves, you also have to delete the two files called "persistent" (they're the same file) in the saves folder and in the Renpy folder, where the backups of all the games are stored .

Cuz a player playing knows there are multiple choices and multiple endings when playing it and the author revealing that in one form or another, even through an announcement. See, i get why there are multiple endings. I'm not questioning the motive of that which is to satisfy all the different kinds of players. I just think/wish Monica should be ended the way DM thinks it should be ended rather than a multi consensus of players. Let the creator create. Art needn't be diluted at the altar of whims of the audience. Van gogh never painted multiple versions of his paintings so that every kind of audience can pick one of them. It isn't a sandbox game like Minecraft either where the environment is defined and the player is co creating after the creator sets the world.

I don't think there being multiple endings means they are thrown out to appease players. I think many endings will happen at different times much like the couple of ep1 endings did. In ep 4 Monica will be able to maybe escape with Julia or marry one of the investors or whatever other scenario. Doesn't mean these will be all good or bad endings. Iv'e believed from my earliest days playing this game that the final ending will be Monica at the farm. These other 12 endings will happen before this and all will be canon if the players choices for Monica lead her too them. However I have always seen this game being about one woman starting as high as one almost could and ending as low as possible.

This fall to my mind has always been what DM intended from the very start of ep1.

it`s standalone for now. So you should have separate saves.
