Crush is actually a genius. He managed to make the story more believable; there is a higher chance that an agent will agree to go undercover as a waitress and slowly evolve into a stripper, than her accepting to be one from the start. Also this way he can reuse the same story he wrote 3-4 years ago with the the T-Shirt contents and say that is brand new content in the long awaited Bangkok.
My guess is that in the next update, our agent will reach Bangkok and get the job. And after that Crush will say that the experiment is over, that life path is more important, he will go back where he left of, to the University & early CIA part of the story, then he will rewrite Scotland to have mind control again and so on.
To be honest, I wouldn't be mad if that were the case. As long as I see actual progress I don't mind fleshing out earlier parts of the story and I actually did like the approach with the childhood and college stuff. However at some point you have to deliver more than just the prelude to the actual story and he did miss on that for years. We currently have the third (?) version of a game engine or whatever you want to call it, so he can hardly scrap it again. Sad thing is, even though I do like dice rolling, it doesn't matter. Nothing really changes, if you hit or miss.
What baffles me is that he did change to a new system a while ago in order to allow other people to contribute texts and scences. If you do this, how come we still don't get more content every now and then? They even seem to have an artist who does all the clothing images and stuff and even if I think it is nice to look at, I really don't need a barbie doll creator. I like the avatar, it is fine, but I have yet to encounter a scene where the clothing did matter. And the previous version of the engine hat the same issue. Totally wrong priorities, even if the content was done well.
Changing the premise from being a whore to being a bartender is probably a wise choice, but who knows, whatever happens, once we get to Bangkok. By the time we get there, we might be a cab driver, driving a flying space taxi from outer space doing cyberpunk things.
Again, I don't mind that. An open world idea was a bad idea to begin with, so I don't have a problem with that move. Just make progress that brings us closer to the actual story instead of redoing the prologue time and time again. I mean, it is obvious that he has no idea what he actually wants to do, once we reach Bangkok. Otherwise we would have gotten there years ago. Or maybe I should phrase it differently? Maybe he has an idea, but doesn't know how to pull it off, considering that he can barely deliver the prelude.
The game is promising. Nobody ever doubted that, but it has never left the state of being promising. 1.12 is big disappointment. Yes, we finally left for Malaysia, but the entire prelude was temporarily scrapped, because the interlude is still missing and the actual Malaysia content is rather... slim. Two months of development for one scene? Why? His own discord is mentioning this, too. I don't have access to the analysts+ section, but it's not like everybody is in love with it.
A better stop here as the post is already longer that I wanted it to be. Imagine I had a Patreon account for that sort of post, I probably could have gotten 6 months of stipends from that.
