The concept of free speech originated in ancient Greece my man.??? The concept of censorship predates the first amendment. What Patreon does doesn't infringe on the first amendment, but it absolutely is censorship. Just because it's a corporation doing it doesn't mean its not censorship. And you can't just "go somewhere else". There are only two payment processors- they have a duopoly.
Patreon is a private company, they can associate with whoever they want, the same goes for twitter, you getting banned from twitter is not censorship. You're allowed to host your content, but not there, go to SubscribeStar, itch.io, Onlyfans, etc.
I think it's funny you complain about this supposed "duopoly" but see no issues with a government monopoly, do you really think the gov wouldn't try shit when it is in full control of payments?
Ah so you agree its censorship, I'm glad you're changing your mind.Maybe, but its a relatively minor form of censorship if it is. Once again, banning porn from public platforms was considered common practice in every society until about fifty years ago. There's a precedent.
Also forgive but I do not understand your argument of "In the past people did it so it's ok". Like you do realize this applies to slavery too right?
It does affect Pornhub, since I assume traffic will go to shadier sites which have shadier rules. I don't think everyone would be thrilled to give their credit card info to a porn site, especially not every single one they visit. Hopefully no breaches ever occur hm?Pretty much everyone operating out of pornhub would be unaffected. The users of patreon and pixiv would likely benefit. Those who sell products will continue to sell products unimpeded. The funny thing is, your earlier reasoning of "don't like it? go somewhere else" applies to my side of the argument moreso than it does to yours.
Patreon and pixiv users would benefit as long as the government monopoly takes to demand new rules, wouldn't take much for that to happen, besides, unless you enact a global government Patreon would still be influenced by payment processors around the globe.
And before you say something stupid like "The First Amendment would stop the government from messing with Patreon", remember that we just censored all porn on social media, ain't gonna stop them, there goes incest again.
Are you telling people to leave the US if they don't like such restrictions? I think that sounds mighty more inconvenient than using another site. Wouldn't you agree?
The minor restrictions being unable to enter 18+ channels or see 18+ content while in the U.S, or face a ban from the country, thanks government! Really making my life better. It would suffer some minor restrictions, but I don't think you can stop people from sharing links.
Dude, you were the one who implied that I want to ban the sears catalogue. I was responding to your hyperbole by explaining that I didn't want to get rid of all porn. Don't accuse others of being misleading when you're screaming "censorship" and "authoritarianism" because I don't want people marketing their titties in the public square.
It seems you have dodged my point, you aren't being truthful when you say you only want to paywall porn sites.
I think it would be nice if you added the whole "forcing Twitter to ban porn against its will" there.
Like you do realize what you said was misleading right? It's not debatable, it's a fact. You literally omitted half of your proposed law. The question is whether it was intentional or not.
And Twitter is not the public square, it's a private company.
Sorry for bothering people with massive walls of texts though.
