Isn't it ironic that the dystopian setting fits femdom so well (how else make the protagonist permanently lowly?), and yet it effectively implies that women will run the society into shit when given the chance (xd).
To be fair, I think the dystopian setting has an erotic appeal for submissives who are into humiliation and self-depreciation (not my main kinks, but I dig them too), and the reason it does not suit maledom as much as it does femdom is that female subs tend to be a lot more focused on helplessness and other aspects of submission than humiliation and being considered 'worthless'.
In fact, a lot of them apparently consider it a red line in a maledom story for the dom to not care about the fem sub, to call her 'replaceable', to even think about any other woman etc, even if that dom tortures the fem sub MC very painfully or turns her into living furniture. (so even some of the female subs that are into 'hard maledom' stories will still have a jealousy instinct and be completely put off by the idea of not being valued, while they will very much like being put into situations where they completely lose constrol and are dependent on the dom - I find this somewhat funny as us male subs tend to be the other way around and to sometimes like
willingly submitting more than helplessness and being forced to, as well as be turned on by devaluing humiliating acts)
I found out about this from a fem sub friend of mine from college who even has this theory that it might be due to evolutionary drives (eg in most mammalian species the female is the one that chooses the mate, and as a consequence of that often develops an insing to scrutinize the features of potential mates for having healthy offspring
and to see other females of her own species as competition, so my friend thinks it could be somewhat evolutionarily-ingrained for a woman, even if she is a sub, to be jealous of other women and to crave being valued by her 'mate'/dom more than anyone else) that this happens, but yeah, what I wanted to say with this long convoluted rant is that I think dystopian settings often work well with femdom because plenty of us male subs fantasize about debasement and humiliation at the hands of beautiful powerful women, (whereas female subs don't, at least not to the same extent) and therefore it's not so much than any male sub really thinks "that women will run society into shit when given the chance", but that many find the idea of society being shit for us, while confortable/maybe even utopian for our female overlods,
arousing.
And because most games are targeted at the audience, and the audience for femdom games is 90% plus male subs like us, the games will often focus on the shitty humiliating condition of the protagonist far more than on the luxury or power of the domme, sometimes even neglecting that aspect entirely, so you get stuff like "Femdom City". If one thinks about it from that perspective, truly terrible dystopian societies that only focus on the humilaition/pain/suffering of the male protagonist are, to the genre of femdom as a whole, very similar to Japanese femdom games that revolve around the protagonist's ejaculation like "Starless" - mostly a sub-centric experience that doesn't really attempt to put the mistress or her needs first...
